Best Cabin Camping near Little River, CA

Cabins near Little River provide rustic to comfortable accommodations with varying amenities across several campgrounds. Hendy Woods State Park offers cabin options within its 70-site campground situated among towering redwoods. Most cabins include basic furnishings with picnic tables and fire rings outside. As one visitor noted, "The basic cabin was just that, but spacious and the heaters worked very well. Nice, well kept campground with plenty of activities." Caspar Beach RV Park and Campground provides cabins across from a beach, while Manchester Beach KOA features heated cabins with beds, though a camper mentioned that "the beds are really uncomfortable, it's just a pad on top of a slat wood frame, remember to bring a foam topper."

Rustic and deluxe cabins are both available, depending on the location. Manchester KOA offers both basic and deluxe cabin options with varying levels of amenities. Dolphin Isle Marina & RV Park maintains cabin rentals year-round with full hookups nearby. Most properties are pet-friendly with appropriate restrictions. A visitor at Mendocino Redwoods RV Resort described their experience: "We rented a small cabin for the night. It was clean and welcoming." Peak season reservations are essential, especially for premium cabins like those at Westport Beach RV Park which offer proximity to coastal trails and beach access.

Most cabins include beds but require visitors to bring their own linens, towels, and toiletries. Kitchen facilities vary widely, with some offering only outdoor cooking areas while others include small refrigerators or microwaves. Cabin guests should plan accordingly for meals, as many locations have limited cooking options beyond fire pits or grills. On-site stores at Caspar Beach and Manchester KOA sell firewood, basic groceries, and forgotten items. Depending on the cabin location, proximity to small towns like Mendocino or Fort Bragg provides additional shopping options. Several campgrounds maintain year-round operations despite coastal seasonal conditions, though winter availability may be limited.

Westport Beach RV Park and Campground

    Great beach access.

We were lucky to get a site right next to the beach for our class B RV. This is a beautiful site along Highway 1.

PS if this site is full, there is a dry camp about a mile north on Highway one. It is right next to the remains of old Highway One and it’s called Oyster Point. It is a rustic grass lot with space between sites, but not much privacy.. There are picnic tables and fire rings. A couple of pit toilets are located around the site. There are about 45 campsites here. Sites here are on a first come basis and self registering. The photos included here are for oyster point.

    Hendy Woods State Park Campground

    Family Freindly Redwood Camping

Spacious sites with fire pit, wooden food box and picnic table. Potable water available at spigots along the roads every 3-4 campgrounds. The campground has restrooms with sinks (bring your own soap), flush toilets, coin operated showers. Campground ha easy access to hiking, swimming in the river, and wine tasting just up the road. There a local produce stands just up the road where you can expect to buy tasty Gravenstien apples if you visit in August! Mosquitoes are present so bring bug spray! If you forget anything, there is a Mom and Pop store up the road that sells almost everything you need including batteries, tableclothes, butane, ice and firewood for about $6 a bundle. The campground host sells firewood for $8 a bundle. Campsites are for 8 people maximum. Even with 8 people, we didn't feel cramped. Sites come with 2 parking passes. If you have more than two cars in your party, you can pay for additional parking passes. Dog friendly! I was the only person in my group to have cell service here and I have Verizon.

Manchester Beach / Mendocino Coast KOA

Delightful, quiet campground in the pines not far from Mendocino

Normally I wouldn't think of myself as a KOA sort of camper. This campground is enough to change my mind! There are some weekends you need to get away, but there's no time to pack the long list of stuff needed for camping. So we tried out one of these little cedar cabins. It was fantastic!!

We loved the quiet, laidback campground, with lovely old pines giving a sense of being in the forest -- even while being walking distance from the water. You're literally close enough to hear the surf, and see the Point Arena lighthouse.

It's dog friendly, with pool, hot tub, hot showers, full bathrooms, and also extensive Camp Kitchen facilities with sho-nuff gas grills.

    We absolutely plan to return!

    Jughandle Creek Farm

Perfectly secluded and right next to the beach.

Jughandle is a beautiful area between Mendocino and Fort Bragg. It contains excellent hiking, a beautiful beach, and even a Pygmy Redwood Forest. I booked it through Hipcamp and you could tell that was the majority of their campers.

We were able to score a site that was very secluded at the end of the road before the private property line. It was the perfect spot to set up two(or more) tents. There was a great fire ring and picnic table at the site.

A short less than a minute walk to the porta potty bathroom that is at the edge of a big field. In the field are two more sites on either side of the road and a large communal cooking area with a water source.

There is also a large fire ring with stump seats in case you want to have a gathering. The sites were pretty quiet even when they were all full and you were able to get to your site without distracting others too much.

There is a hiking path that takes you down to Jughandle Beach where you will find all kinds of tourists, animals, and great sand to play in or up to the pygmy redwood forest.

    Pine Mountain Lookout

    A Unique Experience

A simple, rustic cabin.  As noted by others, it suffers from a little damage/neglect—many of the windows are boarded up—but it's an old fire lookout so we didn't expect a rental cabin atmosphere.  Views are exceptional, as is the peace and quiet.  Get up early and you'll catch the dawn chorus of an amazing number of birds: warblers, woodpeckers, quail, juncos, grosbeaks, cowbirds, even robins.  The cabin is roughly outfitted with cots, bunkbeds, a table and chairs.  There's a clean outhouse down by where you park and a firepit, which we didn't use because it was windy when we were there.  Keep your food up on the table at night--the mice are nocturnal visitors and will help themselves if you leave food on the counter.  Only caveat is the access to the cabin.  They're not kidding when they warn you to bring a chainsaw.  Two of the three roads in and out were blocked by downed trees (so big our small chainsaw wasn't helpful), and in places the road that was open had pretty deep potholes and gullies formed by last winter's heavy rains.  I was really glad we had 4WD.

Guide to Little River

Cabin rentals near Little River, California provide shelter between redwood groves and Pacific coast beaches. Located about 150 miles north of San Francisco, the area sits within coastal Mendocino County where summer temperatures average 65-75°F while winter temperatures range from 45-55°F. Many cabin accommodations stay open year-round despite seasonal coastal fog and occasional winter storms.

What to do

Beach access and exploration: Westport Beach RV Park and Campground offers cabins with coastal trail access along their private beach. "We rented a cabin here back in October. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, and their check-in area/shop had everything you needed if you forgot it. Our cabin was a five minute walk to the beach, with closer spots for RV'ers and tent campers," reports one visitor.

Redwood hiking trails: Hendy Woods State Park Campground features cabin accommodations near two old-growth redwood groves with hiking paths ranging from 0.25 to 3 miles. "The two redwood groves are easily accessible from the campsite, and the campsite itself is pretty nice. Quiet, nicely located and I always have a little bit of service (Verizon) at the campground," notes a regular visitor.

Kayaking and paddleboarding: Dolphin Isle Marina & RV Park maintains waterfront cabins with direct river access. A guest explains, "The site we are on is located between a marina and the Noyo River. It allows for easy access for paddle boarding, kayaking, swimming and seals, sea lions and other wildlife. Last night a 6 point deer walked past our site."

What campers like

Cabin heating systems: Cabins with heating systems rank highly for winter and spring visitors when coastal temperatures drop into the 40s at night. "We usually rent a cabin. The cabins have heaters with is definitely nice," states a visitor to Manchester Beach KOA, though they advise bringing a foam mattress topper for better sleep.

Community camp kitchens: Manchester Beach / Mendocino Coast KOA provides a shared kitchen facility for cabin guests. "This KOA has large tent sites and a HUGE kitchen with 3 electric stoves and several sinks and microwaves for camper use. They have movies each night and have lots of trees for shade," explains a camper.

Private spots: Jughandle Creek Farm offers secluded cabin options with minimal neighbor interaction. A visitor reports, "We were able to score a site that was very secluded at the end of the road before the private property line. It was the perfect spot to set up two(or more) tents. There was a great fire ring and picnic table at the site."

What you should know

Bed comfort varies: Cabin beds near Little River have inconsistent reviews regarding comfort. Bring extra padding or mattress toppers for basic cabins. One Manchester KOA visitor advised that standard cabins have minimal mattresses: "The beds are really uncomfortable, it's just a pad on top of a slat wood frame, remember to bring a foam topper."

Seasonal pricing: Winter cabin rates typically run 20-40% lower than peak summer season, with spring and fall offering moderate rates. Most properties require two-night minimum stays during summer.

Cabin kitchens: Most standard cabins lack cooking facilities beyond microwaves. Plan meals accordingly or check for outdoor cooking options. Westport Beach RV Park offers a dish washing station that campers find useful: "Clean bathrooms and the dish washing area was nice to get the big junks off your pans."

Cell service inconsistency: Signal strength varies significantly by location and provider. A Hendy Woods visitor notes, "I always have a little bit of service (Verizon) at the campground," while another camper mentions, "The waves are loud, the cell service sucks and the Wi-Fi is very spotty…which makes it a perfect spot to get away!"

Tips for camping with families

Campground activities: Mendocino Redwoods RV Resort provides extensive family programming. A visitor explains, "We stayed in one of the premium hot tub sites, where you get your very own hot tub. Highly recommend, my kids absolutely loved it and so did I! We were just a few steps from the pool, which was clean, but pretty cold."

Junior ranger programs: State parks like Hendy Woods offer structured kids activities. "The junior ranger program and nightly events for families helped keep the kids engaged in the camping experience. Park rangers hosted guided hikes, nighttime stargazing (with telescopes), and nightly campfires," reports a family camper.

Swimming spots: River and beach swimming locations provide natural water play. For Hendy Woods, a visitor notes: "If you want to go swimming you have to either ride your bike or drive to the entrance and park at the day use area by the bridge. The swimming hole is nice but can get packed at times. There is a rope under the bridge."

Tips from RVers

Cabin alternatives: RVers with small trailers or vans can often use cabin areas with more flexibility. At Caspar Beach RV Park, "Its a super cramped campground for big rigs. Much nicer and more privacy if tenting. The best spot is 'ocean view' but its time to change the name. That site is for tenting but can accommodate a small rv or van."

Winter cabin availability: Several properties limit RV access during winter months but maintain cabin operations. As one visitor to Dolphin Isle Marina notes, "It does close down except for long-term use in the winter time (November-??) due to coastal seasonal flooding."

Hookup access for hybrid camping: Some cabins permit RV hookups nearby for hybrid setups. Check with management about adjacent parking for small trailers when booking cabin sites.
