Closed Due to Washed Out Road

My husband and I tried to get to the Coon Creek yellow post sites on May 21st, but the gate was up, as the road right at the gate was washed away. So there's no way to get in to the sites right now. Hopefully the forest service will repair the road soon, but there weren't any crews out there, so it's probably going to be a while (hopefully before mid-summer!). :(

Unfortunately, I didn't think to get a picture of the washed out portion of the road, as there was a truck right behind us, also trying to get to the sites.

great spot! beware of “site holders”

so far great spot! i came the week before memorial day, expecting some traffic so i arrived early enough i figured there wouldn’t be an issue. i ended up in site 16, which is nice and open, but quite a ways out and the road isn’t great getting in. manageable in a 2 wheel drive, but not great.

roughly half the site’s are being “held” with chairs for the coming weekend. please remember this is a first come first serve space, which means no reservations. i understand people don’t get off work early enough etc, but it makes it incredibly unfair to those who are out aside from the weekend. its currently early wednesday and about half the sites are being “held” using chairs.

Beautiful and only 45mins from highway.

AT&T - Good. 2-4 bars. Verizon - Good. 2-4 bars. Starlink- >10% obstruction.

Trees provide lots of shade and some privacy despite campsites being fairly close to one another.

Easy road in most anything can drive it.

Shade obviously made solar and Starlink less than perfect but also made energy consumption far less too.

Very cold at night!

Horseback riding on weekends and some other day users.

Quiet, spacious

I only saw the first 9 or so sites and stayed I think at site #9. For the most part, spacious spots, fire ring, picnic table, a lot of trees, and varied slopes. Road in is placed initially then dirt but is fine. There's other rough roads further in and access to hikes nearby. I loved how quiet it was, except for neighbors since sound carries so easily even though spots are quiet apart from each other. You'll pass an equestrian campground on the way in that you might be able to get water from.

Great short trip close to big bear

The place is great. It has firepits and picnic tables. Plenty of trees for shade but some yellow post sites are steeper than others. I stayed at yellow post 12. The camp sites are close but still quiet. Verizon had 2 bars but very slow internet. Phone calls are okay. For a spot that's free and no limit on cars or tents. This place is great for 2 days trip and it's close to big bear city.

Great Dispersed Camping in Angelus Oaks

Dirt roads were well kept. I came with a 170 wheel base Sprinter Van w/ 2 wheel drive and had no problems making it to site post #11. I arrived on a Wednesday and had a quiet stay. I saw 2 other RV’s in other sites on the way in. My site had a picnic table and a fire pit. I had spotty internet on my T-Mobile sim. Verizon sim had 2 bars with my cell booster. Enjoyed my stay! Very peaceful and quiet.

Decent sites, just. little too close to the road (for my taste)

There's 19 Yellowpost sites (I believe) and I stayed in site #16; it was the best one in my opinion. There was some perfect tree's for hanging a hammock and escaping the sun. The sites are decent sized too, and they all have a picnic table and a fire pit (which is nice).

My biggest complaint was how close it was to the road, it was hard to get the whole secluded feeling. And I was also a little bummed to see no water in the creek, but I;m learning that's more common than not.

The road was pretty well maintained, a car without 4WD can handle it easily.

Overall, it was a decent site and definitely has it time and place - but if you're looking for a backcountry feel with beautiful awe-inspiring views, I would say find a different spot. But if you're looking for a chill place to hang out with friends in the forest, maybe play some horseshoes and have a fire - this is a perfect spot. :)

Crowded small to group sites

There are a lot of sites available here, all close together with little privacy unless you drive pretty far down the dirt road. Flies and mosquitoes are crazy during the summer. These campsites are all closed during the winter due to snow and early into spring. No view and hiking is decent, probably won’t go back, cooler places yet to explore. Picture attached is of a trail behind our camp spot.

Wide Variety Of Sites

A whole range of sites up and down the dirt road with a good selection on styles from trailer sights to rough camping. Water is only available near the main road so bring containers if you go further up the road. No rservations on the majority of sights but there is a cabin at the end of Coon Creek called Coon Creek Cabin and it requires a reservation with a fee ( great camping spot wi8th tons of hiking at the cabin). The PCT is nearby if you want to get a few extra miles logged.
