Found this Gem along 44, follow gravel road down as the trees open up it's just on the left. A chill sanctuary next to the creek. Very little traffic down the road even on the weekend. Had my dog with me, did not find any ticks here!
Cons - Creek has been ravaged for gold, so a few piles of rocks and gravel left over. Very dusty, gravel road unleashes clouds of dust as people drive by.( Very rare)
This was a lovely spot next to a small creek, and several sites had access to it. We towed a 18ft travel trailer and found lots of spaces it would fit, though I wouldn't recommend anything longer than about 25 feet. The restrooms were clean and stocked and several sites had stone stoves as well as fire rings. We used our GPS vs Google maps, had no problem finding the campground. It was secluded and had plenty of shade. We only stayed one night traveling through, but would definitely stay again.
We found this spot pretty perfect for dispersed camping. The roads were well maintained and we didn't have any trouble with a FWD SUV. Recommend following the directions listed here, as Google maps tried to take us through some roads that were privately owned and gated off. We got in late which made it a little difficult to navigate but not impossible.
The spot itself is next to a pleasant stream, carpeted with pine needles and nestled among evergreens. It's remote enough that we couldn't hear any traffic or other noise pollution. It was cold in April , but very clean, beautiful and peaceful, and we wished we could have stay longer.
This is my favorite park of all time. I’ve been here multiple times since I was a kid, so I’m a little biased most likely. Last time I camped here it was on the off season and not the smartest decision. We were the only people camping in the entire park. The bathrooms were all locked even though the park was technically open. We didn’t come super prepared, it was in November about everything froze in the morning. Still we made it work and we had a blast. There’s multiple hikes like Bumpass Hill. There’s stunning views and lakes. It’s also not too populated, many people don’t know about it still. I highly recommend it.
Dry Camp with pit toilets. No designated campsites, find a fire ring and make your spot. Beautiful spot, watch out for the cows!
My husband and I took a quick trip to North Eastern California for some rock hounding. We came upon this campground toward the end of the evening. It's a dry camp ground with pit toilets. The best part was that there were not designated camp sites - find a fire ring, and camp away. Our nearest neighbor was well over 200 yards away. It was a great spot and perfect for 4th of July weekend. We will definitely be returning to this location!
Camped here in my 19' Jayco Jayflight travel trailer. The spots are right along the creek with lots of mature trees as well as a toilet. It was fairly level and easy to get into a spot. This is more like boondocking than camping as the spots are not improved and the road in is dirt. It is beautiful. It's close to Davis Creek where people rockhound for Obsidian which is why I was there in the first place. I enjoyed camping here and would do so again.
