Quiet spot for stargazing

I arrived late on a Thursday night in early June and there were a few RVs occupying the primo sites next to the river, but plenty of open sites further from the river. Many of the RVs had fishing gear...I don't fish, but guessing this might be a good spot to cast a line. There is a mix of tree cover and open meadow areas - I setup in the meadow and had enjoyed great stargazing. The place was clean and the hand-pumped well water was great.  I was hoping to take a swim but this section of the Stanislaus river is surprisingly raging! I didn't get a chance to explore much because I only stayed one night on my way to Mammoth Lakes.
