Where do you start with Yosemite. We have been fortunate to visit and camp at Yosemite on multiple occasions. The approach to the valley is simply magnificent even with stopping with heavy traffic. The valley is incredible and probably one of the best experiences at any National Park. The best time is during the spring melt when all of the waterfalls are working their magic. It’s not uncommon for the waterfalls to dry up in the summer season. We like to come in the late Fall when the crowds have died down. The summer time at Yosemite, like many other National Parks is overcrowded with traffic jams and overrun facilities. Getting a reservation here is a bit like winning the lottery. We have tent camped at all the large valley camps. The camps are on top of each other, noisy, and overcrowded with families and students. Your best bet is to visit the valley and camp outside the Park or in locations outside the valley. The granite cliffs and waterfalls are something to treasure. They have a huge grocery store and gift shop in the village. We’ve attached some of our favorite videos and photos from our last camping trip which was in the Spring and early summer.
Just off the road that takes you to Glacier Point. Reservations not needed, but tough to get on weekends. Get up early and go to Glacier Pount for the sunrise overlooking Half Dome, the Head back towards camp but stop at Sentinel Dome parking. It’s only 2.5 miles round trip to Sentinel Dome and the view is stunning, you’re higher up than Half Dome on one side and El Capitan on the other. We spent very little time in the campground as we were out hiking so much. Get up before dawn if you want to have a parking spot anywhere you want to hike.
These sites are first come, first serve which is good and bad. Doesn't fill up like some of the year round sites right by half dome and it's really not that far if you want to get some awesome views.
Good space for tents and you're semi secluded from other campers and not as many RVs/Trailers as some of the other campgrounds.
Decent access to drinking water and each site has tables and fire rings, no RV hookups (another reason you have more "campers" and it's less noisy at night).
site: decent space. decent privacy a bit more wooded than other campground in the park. some shaded sites. amenities: cleaned daily. attractions: 25 minute drive to the main attractions in the Valley. I would go camping here, but be warned it’s first come, first served (just drove through checking out the campground).
