Worth the trouble to get there!

My GPS took me on an interesting route to this campground in a torrential downpour. That being said, once I arrived, it was worth it.

Site: 23  in B Loop - water and electric H/U,  treed and enough room to open an awning if needed, gravel pad needed some leveling, but not extreme. This is an end site so there wasn’t anyone to one side. However, to the other side was a neighboring site with little privacy and enough space to allow for any visitors to the site next door to park. This site also backs to the lake which is nice except that people would park their boats on the shore and walk through the site at which I was camped. This was a first for me. I’d choose a site on the back of this loop. Site 31 looked great! These sites are also on the lake, but the shoreline doesn’t allow for boats to park. All sites have picnic tables, fire rings and a BBQ.

The bath house was in a separate building from the restrooms. I wish more parks would have this arrangement. Showers were clean and a good size. Flush toilets were also clean.

Amenities: This Corps of Engineer campground has so much going for it. Sandy beach, playground, picnic area with common fire pit. Boat launch (not much parking) but that limited the number of boats that could put in at the campground. No wake area in the lake around the campground so it was quieter. Nothing against boaters, just FYI.

The standout for me is the trees! Forests of hardwoods and pines with a campground tucked into a little lakeside cove. I really enjoy COE campgrounds.

What drew me to this campground was the location. One of the trailheads to the Lake Ouchita Vista Trail is adjacent (about a 10 minute walk). This hike was a standout for me! I’ll be back to hike the other leg which is the Carlton Trail. True to its name, I actually found crystals in one of the springs!

Great family trip

We had a lake front site that was almost perfect. There wasn't as much shade as we thought we'd have. We have a popup so it got a little warm. From our site, the kids were able to get in the water. There was an awesome playground, but it was inaccessible due to C19. The bathrooms were clean. The sites on the other side of the campground were away from the lake a bit, but were very shady. Overall, the views were fantastic, and we would definitely go back. Pretty decent cell service with T-Mobile.

Ranger Review: Women's Rebel Stretch Shell Jacket at Crystal Springs

Campground Review:

Crystal Springs campground is near Hot Springs, Arkansas. The campsites all have great views of the lake, but I believe this campground is meant for RV's. The sites are very exposed. That isn't a big deal if you are in an RV or camper, but it is tough if you are in a tent on a windy lake.

Our site was on a point. The rain and wind really beat our tent up. In fact, we had to cut our trip short because of the windy conditions.

There weren't any hiking trails near the area, but there were great fishing opportunities.

Product Review:

As a Ranger for The Dyrt, I get products to test from time to time- today I am testing Red Ledge Women's Rebel Stretch Shell Jacket . This was my first "legit" rain jacket.

Top reasons I love the Red Ledge Women's Rebel Stretch Shell Jacket:

1. The fit is great. I ordered a medium, and it is perfect.

2. The elastic around the wrist and waist help protect against the elements.

3. The hood has a bill so that rain doesn't fall into your face.

4. The pockets have zippers for added protection.

5. The zipper zips both ways.

Red Ledge created a stellar product with this medium weight jacket.

Nice campground off Lake Ouachita

Stayed at this campsite after a long day on the Lake Ouachita Vista Trail. Wouldn't recommend Site #2 but I did arrive at camp around 6PM on a Friday and was able to get the site so that was a plus. Took a brief walk around the camp and it has some nice amenities including showers and a beach if you want to go swimming.

Beautiful lake campground

It was flooded when we went and dead but still incredible! Clean bathrooms and friendly DNR. The lake was really nice and good fishing! The scenery was great and lots of wildlife. Went crystal digging at Coleman which was also unbelievable. Will definitely go back when half the US is underwater!

Lake view/ bring your boat

I want to start by saying how nice the staff was. There was a nice lady at the check in desk that helped us find a site before the busy labor day weekend. We had a wonderful conversation about our travels and since she had to help cars driving by she greeted everyone cheerfully even while helping us.

This park offers all amenities. The facilities were well kept and the campsites were very nice. There is RV and tent camping available. This area is good for day use as well as there is a swimming and picnic area. What I found so neat, is that there is the ability to park boats right on the lake near your campsite. you literally walk down a hill to your boat once you load it in. It is right on the Ouchita lake, so there is plenty of room for all water sports.

Pretty and fun, but close quarters

The campsites (I'm referring in particular to those with hookups because I have not seen primitive ones here) are too close together. Nonetheless, this is an attractive and popular spot, with activities for families like a nice beach and play structure. There are some sites positioned close to the water, so you can look at a view instead of just your neighbor. In the hottest months of summer, bear in mind that Charlton Recreation Area, just a hop down the road, has colder (spring-fed) swimming water than the lake as well as plentiful forested, spacious, primitive sites in their own dedicated primitive camping loop.

Favorite camping on lake

Sstayed here on several trips. I always loved it. Cell service (Verizon) was very good, picked up a good number of tv stations on regular TV. No Wi-Fi or sewer hookups. We stayed for 5 days with 4 teenage grandkids and had a blast. Rented a pontoon boat for a day and had a blast (price was much less than I expected. Incredible hiking all around you. Campground is secluded and quite. We saw eagles every day and fishing was great.

real busy

The first thing you notice when you come here is the clear lake that is a short walk away from the campsite. The sites are pretty big and has a shelter because it rains pretty often here. It actually was sprinkling a little at night. In the hike you can see a lot of bird watchers.

Ouachita Lake Park

Wooded lake and mountains with lots of water activities, sandy beach, a restaurant. The campground is decent sized, wooded, shady, privacy varies a lot. We were lucky to reserve a site right on the water so the kids spent all the time splashing down there within sight of our picnic table.

Beautiful Lake Ouchita

Crystal Springs campground is great. The lake is great. I was too busy having fun and didn't take enough pictures. There are breathtaking views of the Ouchita Mountains. There is springs coming out of the ground on hikes. The creeks are crystal clear and fun to wade around in. There is a swim beach but you can swim anywhere. So when I got hot I just jumped in the water to cool down. Most the campsites are at the waters edge. We fished at night for catfish and caught what we needed. The campground is pet friendly. My dogs are like my kids and they had fun. There was a night or two when I had to hush them up because of raccoons. The bathrooms have hot and cold water. There is a fish cleaning station. Our campsite #18 was great. It had a picnic table, fire pit, barbecue grill and a little table beside grill and nice shade. The campground is about 16-17 miles from Hotsprings, Arkansas.

Pretty Mountain Getaway

We visited here for a get away from Dallas. Bit of a far drive, but great spot. There was a stream through camp you could go play in and nice hiking trails from camp. The camp hosts were very friendly and the services were great.
