 Greers Ferry Lake is an outdoor enthusiasts' dream, with boating, sailing, water skiing, swimming, scuba diving and fishing opportunities. Sugar Loaf Mountain Island National Nature Trail is adjacent to the campground, on an island within the lake. The trail must be accessed by boat, but visitors who tackle the 1.5-mile hike reach levels 1,001 ft. above sea level, providing impressive panoramic views of the surrounding lake and countryside.
## Natural Features

 A dense mix of red cedar, black gum, red oak, elm, pecan, and sweet gum trees forest the area, providing shade in the summer months and beautiful fall colors in autumn. Wildlife is plentiful around Greers Ferry Lake. Visitors commonly see white-tailed deer, wild turkeys, rabbits, squirrels and a wide variety of birds.

The Best Camping Near Higden, Arkansas

A nice busy but not wild family camping area. Has a swim area and marina, kids can feed the fish, able to rent boats or kayaks/canoes also. Family friendly and relaxing.

Beautiful view of the lake

Sugarloaf has become my family’s go to camping area. Campsites are usually easy to book in advance, and we never had any problems with reservations. Swimming are and powered bathrooms are great. Park rangers patrol the park throughout the day and night, giving all campers piece of mind. As most campsites are, there are no real defined borders and all Greers Ferry and Heber Springs are surrounded by residential areas. We had an instance where a gentleman rode his ATV through the woods and just walked up to multiple campsites. He was friendly but later that night someone tried to open my car door, causing the alarm to go off. Proper authorities were called and they eventually caught up with him. Out of the 20+ years we’ve used Sugarloaf, this is the only issue we’ve experienced.

While in college, and subsequent thereto, I frequently visited Sugar Loaf Mountain for day hikes.  The locations and names of “parks” are confusing on Dyrt so I would note that the camping area is called Sugar Loaf Park.  I think this is a beautiful area of the state and the mountain is located W-NW Greers Ferry Lake and Dam.  There is a $5 day entry fee if you drive in and $2 for walk in.  The camp sites are $16 (no hookups) &amp; $18 (30/20 amp) per night.  Overnight camping is only allowed mid-May through mid-September but is otherwise available for day use year around.  I personally think this is the preferred camping area around Greers Ferry Lake bc of the hiking and views, which I am more into.  If that is your thing, Sugar Loaf is a solid spot for you to visit.  Plenty to do and see within a 10-15 mile radius that can keep you busy for several days.  Would recommend.

Great for Hikers and View Seekers

This is a great park. There are sites near the water. The closest to the water was D7. You have a view of Sugar Loaf mountain in the background. It’s a medium sited lot but plenty of room for a tent and a canopy. The sites aren’t right on top of each other so you should have a decent amount of privacy. Bathrooms are within walking distance of the sites. The D loop was our favorite. Bring your kayak and paddle to Sugar Loaf then hike to the top!

Nicelyspaced sites with some water sites.  Wooded and a lot of nice shade, a large bath house with toilets.  The swimming beach has sand and an amazing view of Sugarloaf Mountain.  There is a loaning life preserver station with a great number life preservers on offer.  The site numbers are well placed and easy to read and see.
