Haw Creek Falls—Located on Hwy 123, this newly designated Point of Interest will be accessible year-round. Removal of the gate across the low-water bridge and suspension of fees will be immediately implemented, and camping will still be allowed in designated campsites. A slow transition of amenities such as picnic tables, fire rings, and lantern posts will be removed over time as they become unusable or unsafe. Trash services will be managed by the user as “pack it in, pack it out.” Active partner groups and volunteers are helping extend the life of current amenities, excluding trash services. Several volunteer workdays have been hosted at this site in the last several months, which have proven to be immensely beneficial to keeping this primitive area operational. Please note, this area is subject to flash flooding and visitors are responsible for monitoring conditions and taking precautionary measures. Removal of the gate does not indicate the area is always safe during changing weather conditions.


Surrounded by a beautiful mature hardwood forest, this campground is located on a small mountain stream with picturesque falls, rocks, and a bluff. Big Piney Wild and Scenic River are nearby. There is an accessible trail to the Haw Creek Falls. Camping - 9 family units. Camping trailers are allowed but no special facilities are available. Access to the Ozark Highlands Trail. The recreation area is closed following the 3rd week of December and reopens the 3rd week of March. Please note that the campground is closed when heavy rain is forecast. Haw creek falls is a small campground that has only primitive campsites. But the scenery is worth it!
The site is located near the haw creek water fall and the Ozark highlands trail runs thru it. there are 9 sites available at first come first served basis only.

Quiet  campground

The place is beautiful. I’ve been there several times but won’t be going back. There was human waste on the ground in the middle of a campsite and dirty baby diapers thrown around even tho there are plenty of garbage cans. Not camping in filth.

Nasty people

Neighbors aren’t too close, and right smack dab in the middle of days of hiking! Great location unless there is a deluge, and you might get flooded out or stranded until the water goes down.

Waterfall built in 

It’s a pleasant, small primitive camping loop with a short walk to the falls. In peak season, it can get crowded, with cars lining the loop, people leaving food and trash around, making noise, and the toilets will smell foul. Be kind to people and nature. If you’re coming from or going to the east - and you’re here for the falls - take a drive by Falling Water Creek Falls on Upper Falling Water Road (dirt road). When water is flowing it’s beautiful. In between these two spots you must stop for a scenic hike at Pedestal Rocks.

Camping close to the falls

I’m glad I found this campground. Quiet and clean. Several waterfalls in the area to explore. Drive-up, fire-ring, hook, bench, pit toilet. Hammocks are allowed if you choose. 

Great Spot

Nice campground, just the basics, does have vaulted toilets.  Waterfalls in the area, Piney River and Highland Trail is very close.   If you like getting back to nature, this place is for you. 

Simply Beautiful 

This area is beautiful. The campground is located in the Ozark National Forest. Beware of flooding during the rainy seasons. When it rains a lot, the creek floods and covers the road into the campground. 

The sites are primitive. There is a decent amount of space between the sites. Most have fire rings and a great view of Haw Creek Falls. There are toilets but no bathhouse. 

Enjoy the nearby trails while you are here! Pam’s Grotto was my favorite. 

Gorgeous setting, primitive but pretty 

This isn’t exactly remote, but it’s well developed without being overdone, with spacious plots. I think this would be a great area for families, though I was just passing through by myself. The location is very pretty, but be warned - the area is closed during times of intense rain, due to frequent flooding. 

Good Spot for Families

Fun campground, not exactly remote but private enough. $10/night, which is more than fair considering the size of most of the sites. Swimming area is fantastic, a much needed relief after a hot day of hiking! Something really important to note though is that there is NO WATER!! Bring your own water in to avoid making a half an hour trip to the nearest gas station!!

The few spots fill up quick, but if you can get one you will be right next to a cool waterfall perfect for cooling off. 😎

First come, first serve. Vault toilets. Water pump didn’t work for us, but we just filtered water from the creek. No cell service, so make sure you download your trail maps before hand!

Primitive Camping!

This is a pretty nice and quite camp site there is definitely traffic through here more than we’re use to but it’s a really nice spot, it’s all primitive camping, there is vault toilets on site we keep a toilet room with us so I can’t comment on the cleanliness, the guy that collets the trash is an older gentleman and very friendly,the water is clear and decently cool it’s a very relaxing place granted we are here during the week and not the weekend yet but so far only one other person here and without any hook ups I’m sure that will limit others. It is $10 a night which I say is definitely worth the scenery.
Cons: there was someone in this campsite before us and left diapers in here and some other trash also found one in the water. We picked up the other trash but I draw the line on toilet paper and diapers. 

But all in all it’s pretty clean and well worth the stay.

Great

This campground is free as in beer. No pay stations or anything. There are practically no amenities: just vault toilets and no potable water anywhere, so make sure to bring plenty of drinking water. Other than that, this place is great! Easily worth *some* money. The campsites are nicely laid out, and there's a creek nearby. It's not deep enough for swimming, but it's perfect for a refreshing wade. The trailhead for Pam's Grotto is right across the road, and certainly worth a visit.

Only downside I encountered here was a family a few campsites over who ran a generator all night. Pretty dang annoying.

Can't beat the price

I loved every moment of the 6 days i spent at this campground. I could hear the waterfalls from my site every night. no cell service, its about a 30 minute drive into  
Lamar before you reach any service. first come first serve. I cannot wait to go back!

Stunning!

Absolutely loved it here! No cell service for 30 min. You have to drive out of the forest and pass one town to get to any service. For me this was a bonus, i will definitely go back

No cell service

I spent 6 nights here in mid-October. This is one of the nicest, most beautiful, free camping spots I have found. The campground is a loop with 9 sites available. I had the good  fortune to stay at the edge of the falls.   regularly. very clean, but very busy.

Haw Creek Falls in Autumn

An amazing awesome place just inside the southern hemisphere of the ozarks. There is a beautiful campground, first come first serve, only 10 sites available. It is right on the creek/waterfall. Epic swimming hole as well. You need to pack in and pack out as there are no trash cans or anything, or drinking water, but there are vault toilets. Some really awesome hiking trails around too.

I had a wonderful night here and I was the only camper on the whole campground. The site is beautiful. 

Unfortunately, people have left quite a bit of trash. 

Beautiful place

We had such an incredible time here it really felt like a hidden gem! There was almost no one camping down here maybe 1 other person and access down to the river and waterfalls is simple. One of my favorite camping spots I’ve ever been! 

Such a gem 

For actual camping there was maybe 2 other campers in the area but during the day LOTS of people coming to swim ( and leaving trash 🤮 ) The water was beautiful, eating dinner by the falls has become one of my new favorite camping memories in arkansas.
Lots of snakes and saw a feral cat but so pretty, and the bathroomS were absolutely disgusting and full of trash 

Free camp, moderately popular 

We only saw one other couple there the whole time we were there, it was clean, taken care of, had restrooms, tables, and firepits at several sites. It was beautiful! Secluded, need bug spray, worth the ride out but no cell service at all!
