The Best Camping Near Grand Canyon, Arizona

We stayed two nights in Trailer Village RV Park at the Grand Canyon. We made reservations for our site four months ahead. That was necessary as the campground was full when we arrived! The sites were a good distance apart and there was green space between the RVs. Our site was on the end of a row, and there was a large grassy buffer between the site and the road. We even had plenty of room to put up a tent. Picnic tables, charcoal grills, and full hookups were all provided, including, to our surprise, cable TV! There was no WiFi and our Verizon cell signal was 1-3 bars throughout our stay. No video streaming, but  text and email were fine. We have a 17' travel trailer and that plus two vehicles fit well into the parking garage area. There is also an overflow parking lot and you can pick up the Blue Line bus right at the Campground entrance station,which we did! Public bathrooms were clean and stocked, although we did not use the showers so cannot comment on those. Trash and recycle were available close to each loop.

This was an ideal place to stay with an RV at the Grand Canyon.  The bathrooms were nice enough and the sites were a decent size- I wouldn't say private, but it worked for us.  The real draw of this campground is that it's close to all the main hiking areas and central part of the park.

This is a great campground in the Grand Canyon National Park it is close to the village, you can bike and hike fom this location. There is also a bus stop at the entrance to this campground that will take you all around the canyon to see all of the sites. All of the spots are pull through and have water electricity sewer and cable. The cell service is ok depending on where you are at. There are a lot of people from other countries that stay at this campground so you meet a lot of nice people. The campground is very close to the rim and many amenities. There is also elk that will come through and graze. We stayed for seven days in August during the rainy season very pleasant.

Great for larger RV’s

Tight quarters amongst other RVs but you can’t beat the proximity to the rim. A 5 minute bike ride and you can cruise along the south rim. The free shuttle bus is also a great way to hop along and see the various highlights. We’d stay here again!

Right in the middle of it all

I had thought the park would be crowded but due to COVID-19 it was not. Sites were good but ours was not very big, very tight to neighbors, some have much more space between.   We did have a site that backed up to a wooded area so that was a bonus(row L). Lots of wildlife looking for water so watch your waist pump out hose, Ravines pecked holes in ours and we couldn’t find a replacement. Had to use hose tape to fix it. Good location if you like to hike the south rim, easy access to trails. Grocery store close but pricey. Clean bathroom but no shower or laundry. 

Good location for hiking

A rare find in a National Park...full hookups for your RV. Walking distance to the "General Store." Bike to anywhere in the park (but remember you're at 7000 feet!). Easy to get up early and see sunrise over the Canyon or watch the sunset then head a short distance back to the village. We saw elk walking through the campground. Sites we're well spaced out, not right on top of each other. We felt lucky to be in such an amazing location!

Spacious full hookup sites

We were lucky enough to snag a spot here last minute. It was the night before the free shuttle service started (last week of February) and before the main tourist season started so we scored a spot! 

We were RV newbies and forgot our hose warmers so the hoses froze overnight. No big deal though! Walking distance to some amazing lookouts and to the dining hall. 

Drove to Keys Point lookout tower and left the park by that exit as we headed toward Lake Powell. 

Perfect RV Spot at the Grand Canyon 

This place was ok, no showers or laundry due to Covid. But there were great bike &amp; walking trails that would have taken us to the Rim of the Grand Canyon if we could have found it, lol. It was getting dark &amp; we forgot a map... Which you would need! The Elk walking thru the Campground was awesome!! 

Quiet Stay

We spent three nights here and we were pleased of how easy was to get to all the viewing sites. Happy to see they were enforcing the mask and social distancing although park was crowed. Most RV parks we have been staying we’re only at 50% capacity. Laundry site was closed. Pretty quiet at night and Dale the Site greeter (don’t know his official title) was extremely friendly and helpful. Lots of wildlife visits and they are not shy. Ravens are a little annoying as are hungry and have no issues going into your trash even when you are few feet away.

What can I say- it’s the Grand Canyon- amazing bike trails- MUST BRING BIKES

Small lots but can’t beat the location and bike trails!

Located in the center of everything. 5 minute bike to the market which has just about everything for campers. Closest viewpoint is about 30 minutes away by bike.
We were here for Halloween and the only trick or treaters we encountered was 3 mule deer and 1 coyote. Only reason I gave 4 stars is because of how close the spaces are to one another.

Center of Everything

We were at the Grand Canyon Trailer Village for four nights in October 2020. We had everything we need in a pull thru site that was generally level. The cell service at this location was pretty bad, but there were areas that we could drive to a few minutes away that gave us perfect Verizon service when we needed to do some work. That said, if you have the option to bring a cell phone booster, we had some neighbors mention how effective that was for them. The most amazing thing about this park was that elk would wander through all day and night and they wouldn't hesitate to get close to the RVs. If you want a full hookup site to explore the Grand Canyon, there's really no better option. Highly recommend it.

Full Hookups on Grand Canyon South Rim

We stayed here for 5 nights and enjoyed how easy it was to walk or bike ride to the South Rim.   In non-Covid times there are shuttle buses from the campground to the rim and other locations.  There is a market within walking distance to the campground.   It snowed about 5 inches while we were there and the roads and sites were plowed frequently.  The shower house walkway was always clear.  The trash is easily accessible and emptied at least twice a day.  Having water, sewer and electric at the site was very helpful for the five day stay.  Elk were sited in the campground as well.

Convenient with Full Hook Ups

Nothing spectacular about the the camp but, very close to the Grand Canyon. We camped during Thanksgiving. It got below freezing so packed for colder weather.

The whole area is beautiful, clean and right at the Grand Canyon.  Hook ups were all great.  Great market nearby.  Everything walking or biking distance.

Beautiful full hook up sites.  We arrived after dark and didn't know what to expect.   Set up and dozed off.  In the morning we discovered a quiet peaceful campground surrounded by forestry.   Moose gently walked through mornings and afternoons.  See the vid of mama Moose calling her baby so it doesn't get lost
  An asphalt bike and walking trail at the edge of camp leads directly to the south rim visitors center after a 15 minute stroll.   Grocery store with camp goods, souvenirs,  deli, post office and coffee are also only a stroll away.  They are only out of sight and there is no noise.  Bathrooms available but no showers.  Picnic table and grill included.  Asphalt driveways and level parking.  Can't wait to return!  

A world away!

This was the only place we could reserve and stay within Grand Canyon so we were thrilled to be able to get a reservation around Christmas time. The other campground (Mather) was first-come first-serve and we did not want to take our chances. This is truly an RV park. We did not need full-hook ups for our van but that was all that was available. 53 dollars plus taxes. No showers, no laundry. The services are normally available in the nearby market plaza village but all shut due to COVID presumably, despite restaurants and gift shops in the same area were open. This is a place for big rigs staying a while. Very few vans, massive RVs with big noisy  generators so it may not be your cup of tea if you have a small van and seeking a more quiet experience. Nevertheless you can stay a few minutes walk from the rim of Grand Canyon. Can’t really beat the location while camping.

This is one large parking lot but was perfect for winter camping with FULL hookups, clean bathrooms, a grocery store and within walking distance, a view that words can’t describe. 

Perfect Winter Camping

Being inside the NP is nearly invaluable. Especially in the winter when you’d can drive to basically all of the viewpoints and hikes if your rig is &lt;25ft. 

✔️ The grocery store, post office, and bank is walkable or a VERY quick drive. Yavapai Lodge Dining Hall is also normally open here. 
✔️ The bathrooms were clean
✔️ The full hook-ups perfect
✔️ The nearly morning or evening visitors of Elk were fun. They are regulars here!

My biggest tip is that you can WALK via the Greenway Trail from RV village almost straight to Mather Point and the Visitor Center. It’s about a 20 minute walk through the woods. Just walk straight west from  Row F / Row P and you’ll hit the trail which is open to hiking and biking.  This is very nice if you’re trying to do the shuttle and don’t want to do a full loop to get back to the RV Village.

Downsides:  Mather Campground has a lot more shade. This basically had none. Big parking lot feel other than the Elk.  I thought it was a no generator campgrounds but there was definitely a generator hum in the evening. 



Great Location, full hookups, Elk Neighbors

Ample room to park a 35 foot trailer. Full hookups and beautiful scenery.  Very close to the general store.  No fire ring but the location more than compensates for that.

Yes, it is a bit pricy at $65 per night, but it is only 20 minutes to the canyon rim !
The sites are a little close together, but there was enough  space for everyone and everything. I’ve been to campgrounds that are a lot tighter.
Full hook ups, clean bathrooms (the shower was not open when we visited) 
Grocery store, deli, and restaurant are also only a few minutes walk away.

Locations inside the NP. Near to the Market Plaza w Grocery store , restaurant and bus stop. Staff is kind and Professional. Spot very big with picnic table. Full hookup site. Resort-style amenities. Near to trail for waking and biking. Enyoy the Beatiful forest and the Deer neighbors . For sure we will stay again and super-recommend👍🔹

🚙Grand Canyon NP Trailer Village Campground🔹

Full hookups on a gravel site that's fairly level. Our site was located right at the far end bordering the woods . The wood tables are aging and not level and not for tent campers. Ours was a pull- through which was very convenient for us. For 30 amp campers, you'll have to bring a dog bone converter from 50 to 30. It was nice and cool in June and we enjoyed our brief visit here. One of the few downsides is that there are only porta potties at this side of the RV Park which you took the review down a few notches. The nearest gasoline is at 15 minute drive from here.

Good overall RV-only campsite

We stayed at the RV campground, it was clean and peaceful. I love the trails nearby that take you directly to the Grand Canyon, the market, and Mather Campground. The restrooms are clean, no showers. We had a full hook up. When we woke up in the morning, it was fantastic to see about 7 deer or elk not sure what they were. They’re so huge! They were drinking the RV hookup water. Not sure if they pulled the hose out but it was impressive.

This is one of the few national campgrounds that have full hook ups. There are paved sites (slanted to drain rain), bathrooms, and plenty of space!  Hot showers and laundry available in a short drive (socially distanced for covid so only 1/2 available to use). Showers cost $2.50/5 min. Shuttle service available at campground for sightseeing. Grocery, post office, and bank very close!  Quiet and lots of trees. Beautiful!  Wildlife comfortable here too!

Love it here

We are in site F30 and have been enjoying our beautiful shaded site. All sites have full hookups picnic table and barbecue grill. 
Each morning I have been enjoying my coffee and my visit from Mrs. Elk who trims the tree branches and eats the fallen acorns.
Our site is a walkable distance to shuttle busses. Shuttles will take you to all major sites of interest free of charge.
Shower facilities (price) and laundry is located in the Market Place which is also on shuttle stop. The Market Place has a restaurant, bank and grocery store.
The canyon is beautiful and inspiring.

Only campground in park open this late in season no hookup water or dump. No problem really.
Ruby’s RV not far away with full hookups, dump &amp; water.  Plenty of space there for more $$$ . Best to show up mid morning fop park site as it’s first come first serve. Nice 12 mile bike trail all the way to red rock other direction up to best view.

We were excited to have a full hookup in a park like this. Everyone is very nice and it's easy to get around from this location. 

Fun and easy place to stay in the Grand Canyon

Fairly nice RV park. Sites are close together and are relatively pricy, but with such close proximity to Mather Point it is to be expected. Verizon service was fantastic and the sites were nice and level. And we saw tons of elk right next to our site! Would stay again if hookups are needed during our next visit!

Fair full-hookup RV park at Grand Canyon NP

This is an outstanding rv park. We brought our 38ft MH and toad into Grand Canyon for this trip and it was plenty accommodating. 

The spots are quite large and we were lucky enough to get one with a large treed area next to it. Full hookups and all.

Great walking distance to the South Rim and easy access to take the toad for a drive to Desert View.

This place is very very popular and fills fast, so always make reservations. Never expect to just pull in and get a spot. Keep an eye on it online...we got our spot for two days due to a cancelation. When we checked to see if we could extend by a day, we were told they were actually overbooked.

Spring vacation 

Beautiful level spot on a solid surface pad.  Had room for our 28 ft RV and car plus tow.  Bathrooms could use a upgrade.  Loved being so close to everything.  Zero WiFi. 

Great Spot Close to It All

Der Platz als solches ist sehr ordentlich und gepflegt. Die Wege sind kurz und man ist in 20 min zu Fuß direkt am South Rim. Es fahren bis 11 Uhr abends kostenlose Shuttle Busse damit man nicht laufen muss im Dunkeln. Leider ist das Personal am Eingang sehr unfreundlich. Zudem sind die meisten Plätze leicht schief man kann also ohne etwas unter zulegen nicht grade stehen.

Location! 

This campground was great. Right in the middle of the National Park With full hook ups. Not as pretty as Mather Campground next door but we had a great stay with AC for the dog on hot summer days we were there. Had plenty of elk come through our site while there which was really cool. Definitely recommend!

Location, Location, Location

FHU sites for all, $75/night. 

Pro: inside Grand Canyon NP. 

Cons:
1.  Showers are at Mather Campground, $2.50 for 5 min ending at 2045. 
2. Bathrooms are barely serviceable. Rather use my own instead (usually don’t due to limited black/grey tank sizes). When paying for CG, I look for good bathrooms. 
3. No camp sink. 
4. Water spigot next to sewer. Questionable how others have used it. 

Not what we like

This was a good experience for the most part. The women’s bathroom seemed to lack cleaning and toilet paper during most of the 3 days we were there. But being this close to the canyon with full hook ups and lots of trees was awesome.

Not too spacious but a really nice campground that has some privacy. If you’re lucky enough sometimes the Elk will stay in the campground with you!

Close to Rim

Stayed here right before the big snowstorm that hit Grand Canyon. Walking distance to the market and accommodating staff helping plow us out of 7” of snow! 

Overall great stay. Be sure to stock up on propane before getting to the site! There was no propane available in the area and had to drive to an hour down to Williams for a refill. 

Great rv spot in GC!!

I would say that this review may be different from most. We arrived March 21 and departed on ‘March 24. We were able to call and get reservations last minute, probably due to the fact that most people did their research and knew there was a snowstorm coming. I knew we were supposed to get bad weather, but the day after we arrived, we woke up to about 4” of snow. The south rim and visitors center were closed. We made the best of our day and went out that afternoon during a break in the storm and we’re able to get to a viewpoint from El Tovar. I was very excited to see the canyon for my first time. Nope - Denied! The canyon itself was socked in with either a cloud or fog. The next day it snowed off and on, and the Grand Canyon remained closed. We drove over to Mather Point and were able to see some views! I really wish we could have seen the whole south rim, but we will have to come back. As far as the campground - we had full hook ups, which was very nice considering the weather. Water, Sewer, 50 Amp. No dog park, you just walk the dog and pick up after them. We had enough cell service that we could watch YouTube. ATT. No Wi-Fi, which is to be expected. My suspicions are that during good weather, you would have a very difficult time getting a spot at this campground as it is very convenient to the park. I think I would have loved it here if I was able to get out and enjoy it more, but we were basically stuck in the fifth wheel. We are a 40’ fifth wheel and the space was 50’ and easy to pull into. Also easy to get out of. I would recommend this park.

Winter Camping Experience

This National Park is like a small city and does a spectacular job of keeping everything organized, especially the shuttle buses that take you out to all the highlights around the park. Trailer Village camping is the typical close camping with everybody in trailers or coaches, but if you ask for the sites without electric you can Boondock away from others. We are in a skoolie and paid for two nights with full hookups just to be here, but then asked for first-come-first-serve sites without electric but have water and these are way better. You can't reserve them on the website so you have to ask when you arrive. An outstanding place to visit.

We needed hook-up and choose the trailer village over the Mather campground. Location is perfect but the campground itself is nothing special.

You will most likely stay here, but hopefully this will prepare you more for it. It is the only place in the park with hookups, so people are “forced” to stay there because of the location. 

It is very expensive, the campground itself is very crowded and you get little privacy. There is a limited amount of toilets. They say there is a shower, but this is a 15-20 min walk from the campground, the same for the laundry. They say there is wifi, but there is no wifi. We were lucky to stay in the B-loop, meaning we were close to the exit, but you might end up on the other side of the camp, and that is quite the walk to the entrance. 

We were waken up at 4am by the garbage truck…

We were looking forward to staying here but found ourselves very disappointed 

Very disappointing 

**General:** It is disappointing when the National Park Service outsources its campgrounds to an “authorized concessioner” who, in turn, puts profits over maintenance as is the case with this campground. However, if you want to camp within the Grand Canyon, this is one of two choices. This one is primarily for large RVs but for anyone who wants FHU sites. 

  

**Site Quality:** Sites on one side have the advantage of paved streets/camper pads while the ones on the other side are mostly dirt. As would be expected in an RV park, sites are close together with zero privacy between them. Although the sites appear level, they are not completely so. 

  

**Bath/shower house:** Only two bathhouses, each with three stalls and two sinks for the entire 123-site campground. If you want a shower, you have to go to Camper Services (drive or a 10-minute walk). The bathrooms were last cleaned two days before we arrived and when we left after four nights, they still had not been cleaned. No ADA access or stall, surprising in a National Park. 

  

**Amenities:** The only “amenity” would be the shuttle service to take you to various points in the Grand Canyon, but this is offered by the park service, not the concessioner. 

  

We chose this “campground” because we were meeting friends who needed the hookups. We don’t mind paying for a nice RV park when needed but $75 was a hell of lot to pay just for hookups and no amenities generally offered by other RV parks. IMO, two stars is a generous rating for this campground, but you are a captive audience if you want to stay within the park with hookups and they know it!

You don't always get what you pay for!

The camp ground was not very well
Maintained but check in was easy.  All AMPs are 50 so they give you a converter if you have a 30 amp RV.  If you do you end up having a converter the circuit may trip.  You would still need to pay the entrance fee into Grand Canyon National Park.  Our site was 62 and we were close to the bus stop for the free shuttle bus around the park. If your RV does not have a shower when you check in they will provide you shower tokens which is about 1/4 mile away from the site.  The weather is cold and can be as low as 20 degrees at night.

Grand Canyon 

Located inside the NP and close to the south rim made for place to spend 5 days. Checking in was ok, the guy checking us in appeared to be a bit stressed when 4 RV's wanted to check in at once. He did a great job of getting our group of three together. Utilities were well placed and trash cans we close by. Rode our bikes from the park to the various places on the south rims. I would put this on the list of the places I would come back to.

Full hook up right by Grand Canyon. Free shuttle buses every 15 mins to the rim and various visitors centers. $85 a night in January a nit steep!

Translation: Almost nothing to say. It's just a shame that the showers and washing machines are a 10 minute walk or 2 minute drive from the Rv Park

It's a big RV and tent park close to the South Rim and quit neat. Recommended to book beforehand. We stayed at a place with only water + picnic table ($30), instead of a place with everything ($79-89).

This the only full hookup campground in the Grand Canyon NP. Spots are good size and pull through. Wildlife walks through regularly and for the most part it is nice and quiet. 

The only downside is if you need showers or laundry services. Both close at 4pm each day so plan accordingly.

Sites are easy access to shuttle bus, and a short walk to visitor center.  Bath houses are clean sites are a bit close but shaded and nice.

We stayed at Trailer Village RV Park for two nights during our honeymoon road trip to visit the Grand Canyon, and it was everything we needed it to be. We arrived at the spot around 6:30 PM and had no issue getting in and finding our spot. The site had full hookups, and all of our neighbors, while in close proximity, were extremely nice. The staff at the Grand Canyon is also very kind and helpful. We seriously enjoyed this national park, it was the first time we’d been. The village is within a 7 minutes drive to Yavapai Point, where we caught both the sunrise and sunset during our stay (*highly* recommend). Our only complaints are that even though our spot was right next to the bathhouse, it was locked and closed during our stay. It may have been out of order, but there was another one not too far. Additionally, we experienced something we never had before in our camper; thrips. They must’ve been falling from the pine trees into our ceiling vent because they came out of nowhere, and after we closed the vent and shook off the bedding we didn’t have another issue. Thrips don’t usually mess with anything other than plants but they must’ve loved our white sheets. The trash receptacle is right next to all bathhouses and there’s also one at the end of each row. Our biggest highlight: we saw TONS of wildlife! Female elk roamed all around the campsites, and one even wandered up while we cooked dinner to snack on the bush next to our truck. All in all, our stay here was extremely pleasant and we definitely plan to be back!

Beautiful Park Service Campground

Arrive late but all was ready, directions to our site was easy to find.  Campground was full, didn’t feel too much pressure from all the people. Site is level, didn’t have to do any leveling adjustments.  Luck my site had a couple pine trees providing shade. It’s a pull through but not long enough to stay connected had to disconnect and park beside the camper.

A great location with shuttle bus every 15mins to surrounding sites. So much wildlife around. Laundry and showers are not located within the amenities blocks which is a little disappointing, they are a bit of a hike away. Very handy picnic table at each site. Wonderful spot.

Really amazing. Sites are huge so you don’t feel like you are right on top of each other. We were warned about the elk rut. Elk were everywhere in the park. A bull bugled throughout the late afternoon into the evening. Hearing that sound in nature was on my bucket list. Amazing. We are going to try the shuttle system. Loving it.

Big campground, easy to find. Full and big hook up sites, clean restroom. 15 min walking to the visitor center. 
Showers not in the campground, about 1/2 mile walk (in the next campground)

Really nice except for showers

We came in without a reservation— the lady was very helpful and let us know that she would call us with any cancellations. They were able to fit us in, unfortunately we had already left the area but it was nice to know she followed through with her word!

Super nice staff!

We stayed for 2 nights. 
We stayed in the gravel area, not the paved concrete pad one. It was very empty on my side, pretty crowded on the pad side. 


Short Visit

We wanted the ability to stay in Grand Canyon Village so this campground was the perfect choice. We were within a short hike to so many attractions, restaurants and sights! Plus the elk walk freely within the campground which we thought was very cool! Sites were close together but we were away from camp exploring most of the time. There’s a free shuttle that takes you from the campground to places all along the South Rim. Highly recommended!!
