Hikers exploring the Mat-Su Valley will find trail access to multiple lakes from Kepler Park, a privately managed campground that underwent renovations in 2020. The property sits on open terrain near Long Lake, with connecting trails that provide access to Long, Irene, and Canoe lakes just off the highway. The Long Lake trailhead requires a short but steep hike down to the water and back up on return.

Great Holidays Campgrounds manages the facility with online reservations available, though bookings close 48 hours before arrival. Sites accommodate both drive-in and walk-in camping at $25-30 per night, with standard amenities including drinking water, restrooms, picnic tables, and firewood sales. Campers should expect rough road conditions accessing the property, and pets are welcome throughout the campground.

Hidden gem and worth a day trip stop

This is a hidden gem but currently under remodel in 2020. The great thing about this place is that there is a small day use area for 4 other surrounding lakes. This property is managed by Great Holidays Campgrounds and are reservable online. All the staff is very nice and reservations are cut off 48 hours prior to arrival.

If you follow the brown signs to Long, Irene, Canoe lake you are in for a treat. With connecting trails you hike possibilities are endless for something so close to the highway. At the end of the road is the long lake trail head and a very short hike to the lake. It is down hill there and uphill on the way back.
