Peaceful campsite in the Mountains

Nice campground with all the normal amenities: pit toilets, dumpster, picnic tables, fire pits, and hand pump for water. Weren’t too many people here so it was secluded and peacefully situated in the mountains with good views. Small waterfall and creek with many ways to get there. My favorite path is the one behind the water pump that goes to a wide, rocky bank that is easily fish-able. I’m sure there’s fish in the creek but I couldn’t catch any.

About an hour from Anchorage

This is a small campground of only 12 spots that fill up during the peak season.  The camp host is down the highway at Granite Creek campground (which I also recommend) so if there are no spots head down the road a few miles.  Because this is a smaller campground there are less restrooms.    This is a centrally located campground and a great choice for first time camping.  Close to Anchorage but still out in the middle of no where with no cell phones.  Bring extra blankets early in the season it gets pretty cold at these campgrounds.   Cell Service: no Internet: no 2020 Cost: $14 Distance from Anchorage: 56 miles Bug Factor (1 minimal to 10 too many to enjoy):  4-7

The Pass

Situated nicely in the Turnagain Pass this campground boasts big sites, tons of hiking options and beauty every way you look. Site with mountain views too! No phone service so you can fully unhook and hide. No campground host so make sure to bring your own firewood. 12 campsites at $14 a night, food lockers provided but no trash service so if you pack it in you pack it out.

Easy, breezy, beautiful

This section along Turnagain Pass is one of my favorites to drive, and Betha Creek Campground is right alongside it- I would imagine many don't even realize it's there! We got a campsite and slept in the VW Vanagon for the night, but enjoyed the firepit, the nearby creek, and walking around the peaceful and beautiful grounds. It was very accessible and made for a simple, easy weekend getaway.

Great view!

Small campground on the Kenai Peninsula. We've stayed here and at the nearby Granite Creek (one of my favorites) when we wanted a place to tent camp while we fished the Russian for salmon. You can fish both Bertha and Granite Creeks, but not for Salmon.

Sites are well-spaced and come with the standard Chugach National National Forest amenities: fire pit, picnic table, garbage, water pump, pit toilets. Unlike Granite Creek, you cannot reserve sites in advance, but this is a smaller and lesser known campground and often I have found a space here when others are full.

Be bear-safe and be sure to lock up all your food and toothpaste when away from your campsite.
