   The campground offers a respite from the heat in a setting of aspen and mature ponderosa pine trees, approximately 6 miles south of Fort Wingate. This is the most recently renovated campground on the Mt. Taylor Ranger District. This area has a rich history of railroad logging, and the original town of McGaffey was built in the vicinity of McGaffey Lake a few miles down the road. Remember to pay attention to road conditions and your vehicle's abilities before driving off of the main road.

Limited electric sites, we do not offer trash removal, dump station or water filling facility. Pack it in/Pack it out please. Community house open 24 hours for bathroom, showers, cooking. (donations accepted).

   Recommend arriving before dark, black skies here unless you arrive under a full moon! Please follow map that we will provide upon booking. GPS wants to lead you down a "damaged road". This road is marked in RED on the map. Please to all the way over the hill to the north road before turning left.
