Firehole Canyon Campground

The views are amazing. Great areas to walk with your dogs. Expect rattlesnakes. Campground is a US Forest Service site, but it’s contracted to a private company called American Land & Leisure. The have doubled up the sites, yes this means you share everything with another camping group and you pay extra for it! We own this land, pay for up keep, improvements and everything else but we are getting charge crazy rates for nothing extra. Won’t come back.

Beautiful area. Is clear that the facility/campground was very nice at one time. All the bathrooms were closed/locked. Campground needs refurbishment. This should’ve been a five star review.

This area is stunning! The campground really seems suited to RVs and we had a tent. It has weird double sites that share a shelter and campfire area with other campers. When we stayed there, the host gave our sweet epic view (long-reserved) spot away to some RV people and stuck us in a crappy middle spot.

I think it’s probably just better to stay right down the road on the shore of the Flaming Gorge, the terrain is super navigable and there’s dispersed camping and a bathroom. The swimming was great! There was a wild lightning storm when we stayed there so the shelter was actually nice to have.

Open sunny CG, not on the water. Sites are the weirdest ever, you share a parking area with the next site like as if it was a double site. Has dumpsters, toilets, showers, scattered water spigots. Host was onsite and helpful. 37 sites, 1/2 are reservable. $25/$12.50 senior. Access road is nice paved hwy 10 mi from #191. Boat marina is down hill from CG. NO CELL SIGNAL on any carrier so bring Starlink or a good book

Beautiful drive!!

Nice, quiet and peaceful. Not a lot of trees, but plenty of sun and a great breeze.

The camp host was off-site with an emergency, so some understandable issues occurred with our reservation that were worked out in a satisfactory manner. We ended up with a double site to ourselves with a nice view of the canyon and moderate view of the water. There was a path down to the"campground swim beach" adjacent to the site... but we never found a spot that I would qualify as such. There were water snakes and other critters that had me thinking twice about swimming. If we didnt have the double site to oursevles, the situation would have been very crowded and lacking any privacy whatsoever. I probably won't camp here again.... but it was... fine.

We had a longer drive than initially realized between destinations and stayed at this as a last min. In-between stop, we were pleasantly surprised! While some campsites are setup as shared campsites, we had the site to ourselves. There really isn’t a bad view from any of the sites, however some do have a view of the lake or large river below. We were only staying one night so didn’t have time to hike and check out the area outside the campground but it looked like there was a boat ramp and hiking trails. I would love to go back to this place as it is very remote and peaceful. There are also covered shelters at each of the campsites over the picnic table and wall that provides some privacy if there are others sharing the adjacent site/side.

We stopped here on a Thursday evening in late June and had no trouble finding a spot. The site pads were large and flat — perfect for our camper. The picnic tables have great shade structures to block sun and wind. Be warned that the wind can be very fierce!

Good spread between campsites. Bathhouse was in decent order just large swarms of mosquitos. Camp host was friendly, great views! Had two packs of coyotes harassing the site my one night. Not sure if that’s common but they got pretty close to the campground but seemed to know to keep their distance. Make sure you keep your food put up!

Awesome views! The usual picnic table, fire pit, water. Unusual double shared sites. You share parking, tables are separated by covered shelter but your neighbor is very close! We didn’t have neighbors so perfect. Bathrooms could be cleaner, free warm shower (great water pressure!) but doesn’t drain very well. Beautiful sunset and sunrise!

Great sites, 32,33 are flat and good views for tents. There are covered shelter w table. Showers are clean. Green River w/ in walking distance. Lots to see and do. Hiking is all over. Dispersed camping available too.

It’s a beautiful stay! Campground was decently busy but our site felt private and chill. Camp host wasn’t there while we were visiting. The views are awesome! Bathroom lights didn’t work/cold shower/dirty. But the site was awesome with a little wind barrier structure and picnic table overlooking the reservoir

I have mixed review of this campsite. I wouldn’t stay here again and here’s why.

Zero cell service!
The wind was insane so spent most of our time indoors! Snowed twice! Hailed. The hours we had nice weather were wonderful as we hiked to the beaches. The views are spectacular!

The bathrooms had no soap or way to dry hands. One of the toilets wasn’t working. The shower was very small, but hot water was a blessing! No electric outlets for a hair dryer, fyi. They should install a soap dispenser and towel dispenser. With Covid, you’d think it would be a no brainer. $22/night (less with senior pass).

Stayed 5 nights, paid for 6 but with the 2nd snowstorm and high winds I decided to leave a day early!

Oh! Forgot. ALL sites are shared!! Shocking to think you’d have to share a campsite with total strangers. I also have a German shepherd who would not have appreciated a close neighbor with a dog! You literally share the same pad! Thankfully, no one else showed up next to me!

Heading from Grand Tetons to Colorado didn't give us great camping options in southern Wyoming, but this ended up being a pleasant and scenic surprise.  Showed up and got a site without reservation, only 1/4 of sites were full.  The water level in river was pretty low and there seemed to be a bit of an algae bloom.  Rock formations were pretty sweet.  Will probably never be in this area again, but if you are stopping through this place was neat.  Perseid meteor shower was over us this night, and this was 10/10 stargazing country.  Camp host mentioned there are rattlesnakes in the area.

Fantastic site !!! We had a great stay here ! Camp host chuck was so kind and friendly. We enjoyed the beautiful scenery and well kept bathrooms during our stay. When we were ready to leave our car wouldn’t start and we knew we could ask chuck for help. He was great helped us out and we will definitely be back! If we could give 10 stars we would.

Wanted to explore the Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area as we were traveling through southern Wyoming. Booked a reservation for this campground for a few nights. We hit an extreme hot spell, but enjoyed the area all the same. It is off the beaten path, but open and peaceful. We enjoyed hiking by the Green River and watching some Pronghorn Sheep that returned each day. Had to hike the mountain across from the campground to get Verizon signal!

Loved the campground, but would have loved more updated bathrooms. The showers were flooded, which could be the number of people there, but should definitely drain better. Close to the water, beautiful views. The only thing to ruin it was the crowds coming back from boating, loud into the night, and RV that ran it's generator all night. Otherwise would love to come back.

My favorite campground so far on our cross country road trip. The views and sunset were fantastic. The camping spots were paved and flat and each picnic table had its own pavilion for shade. Each site also had new fire rings that were really nice to cook on. Additionally if you enjoy overIanding there are many fun trails around the campground. I would highly recommend this campground and will be visiting again

A great campground set down along the Green River. This is a loop set up, with each site nicely spaced with plenty of sage between sites for privacy. Most sites have their own covered picnic table (some share a covered area divided by a wall), and all have at least a picnic table and firepit. Some campsites have better views of the River (which kinda looks like a lake), but those sites seemed to be a bit more windy. The shower house was clean if a bit outdated. Nearby is a nice day use area with a boat launch and fish cleaning station. I stayed here two nights since I liked the privacy and quiet at night while I checked out the gorge and looked for wild horses in the day.

Too much trash around it

We were on our way to Glacier National Park, and were tired of driving for the day. We ended up taking a random road with a camping sign that lead us down to Flaming Gorge Reservoir, and to a pretty amazing little campground! I am so glad we ended up at File Hole Canyon campground, and wish that we could have spent more than one night here! Beautiful high desert scenery, and cozy campsites with fire rings, cabanas, and picnic tables awaited us. A very friendly camp host made sure that we were all settled and had everything we needed. There were even showers (weird, tiny showers, but showers none the less). I highly recommend making the trip to Fire Hole Canyon, and staying to do some boating, fishing, and hiking.
