If you love ORV trails..
Lake Gillette is one of the many bodies of water along Highway 20, two hours north of Spokane, WA. Lake Gillette offers a public use boat ramp and small beach area and dock, with the campground along the east shore of the lake.
This was our first time at the campground, so we had not done any research on the surrounding trail system other than MTB/hiking. There happens to be a large ORV trail system that runs next to the campground and around the surrounding lakes/campgrounds. We didn’t mind the noise since we were out for a few hours each day on our mountain bikes/hiking, but we didn’t realize that dirt bike/ATV riders like to be up early and hit the trails! So if you prefer to sleep past 7am you may not enjoy this campsite...
One of the days we took the short drive north to Frater/Leo Lake trail system with our mountain bikes. The second day we decided to hike Springboard Trail which is accessible via the other loop of the campground.
We were able to reserve a site on Recreation.gov, but didn’t know it was a group site until we got to the campground. We never saw the campground manager so we assumed nobody cared it was only the two of us! The campsites were well shaded with plenty of space.
