Best park in the area
Fort Flagler state park makes up for the fact that it isn’t the easiest park to arrive at by being one of the best parks you can arrive at in the area. We made an attempt to camp over Memorial Day to find that this park definitely needed to be reserved beforehand as every spot was taken all weekend. The park sits on the hood canal and the straight and is an old military base, still with artifacts from the area to explore. We stopped at the old gun area and started a short 2 - 3 mile hike around the area. The hike was pleasant as it traveled through forests with peek a boo views of the water. The downside is there is only around 6 miles of trails in the park. The camping areas are split into two. A more rv friendly part of the park by the water and a more tenter friendly part of the park that gives an amazing view of the Olympics. The park by far would be the one we would go back to in the area.
