Camano Island State Park was a great campground so close to Seattle. We stayed in site 24 with friends on either side of us. The campsites were roomy with enough separation from our neighbors. Though 24 and 37 (I think) may have been a little close if it weren’t our friends. Some sites on the other loop (especially 9) have some amazing views of the sound!

I walked the trails both mornings with our dog and son. They are in good shape and offer ups and downs as they wind through the forested area of the park. You get some nice views of the sound here and there and for the most part don’t see much of civilization.

The trail to the beach is steep with a lot of steps, but not too long. The rock beach offers some pretty cool sights. We watched bald eagles circle a d hunt for over an hour. The kids found baby crabs and had a blast watching them.

Just down the road is Cama Beach, you can walk it, but we drove. They had some great activities for the kids. Boat building, with all the supplies, giant bubble making, and these adventure backpacks that you could check out with some informational books and pamphlets, a bingo card, a scavenger hunt, and some tools (binoculars, magnifying glass, sketch boot, etc…).

There was a little more early morning traffic with people getting their boys into the water than usual, but it didn’t really bother me, and it didn’t wake the kids. You need to clean up at night and before heading out for the day as the critters are not shy and come out of the woodwork as soon as you leave.

Overall, it was a great place, and one we’ll likely go back to. It was so close and easy to get to, and offered a fantastic family camping weekend.
