Look a Little Before You Leap

This campground works... sure, they sell thimbles and uninspired postcards in the gift shop when you check in, but the price is reasonable and the camping goods they sell are useful. It's just north - and I mean JUST north - of the large town/Portland suburb that is Vancouver, WA, which could be a blessing or curse. The first site they gave us (see video and pardon my use of the word "midget"... "Little People" is the correct term nowadays) was tiny, probably not big enough for a large tent, but then across the way was a huge site that really was a double. We had tons of shade and quiet nighttime neighbors. They had comically random porto-potties but a nice bathroom/shower area, the "volleyball court" was really a bunch of unmowed grass and yellow "DO NOT CROSS" tape, but volleyball's not my go-to camping activity anyway. Overall, I couldn't complain, I had great friends around and we drove a couple hours due north on I-5 and hiked around the gorgeous Mt. St. Helens. Big Fir's an easy way station.
