We live in the area and camp at Sherando often.  It is a perfect getaway spot for us with everything you would want right here.

We like loop "C" the best as it can be reserved ahead of time, but "B" loop is just as nice.  The lakeside is wonderful for sitting, reading and swimming.  The "upper lake" is great for fishing.  There are numerous hiking trails available from the simple loop around the lake to ones that go all the way up to the Blue Ridge Parkway and beyond.

Just north of the park entrance is the B&R grocery that has any supplies you may need.
