Good little spot
Enjoyed this campground on a weekend in August, 2019. Weather was good, warm but comfortable in the shade during the day, cool but comfortable at night. Bugs were there (obviously) but not terrible; mostly just little gnats that will buzz in your ear occasionally. Arrived around 6pm on Friday night and most of the sites were full. There aren’t that many to choose from, maybe 8-10 total. There is a loop with maybe 8 sites if you squish (everyone in the loop seemed really close together) and then two other spots closer to the information board and toilet. 1 of these sites is a large RV pad and the other is a great group site secluded in some trees. There is also a few sites on the drive in but they aren’t in the actual grove of trees. Fee is $5 per night. There was no host and it had been a while since the toilets were serviced/restocked (bring your own toilet paper). Beautiful area and the drive in was a good time. Once you get off the Leeds exit, it’s about 20 minutes or so on an unpaved road. There’s only a couple deep holes that you need to look out for but other than that you shouldn’t have a problem taking a regular sedan out there as long as you have decent tires that have got some tread. Pretty sunflowers and other scenery as you drive closer to the mountain. Fire pits and fires ok. Trailheads are there but we didn’t do any hiking so I’m no help with that. All said and done, 7.8/10.
