Ponderosa Grove Campground

Clean, Organized and Cheap.

This is a relaxing setting among  towering Ponderosa Pines.  During our travels over the last two years we've stayed at this campground for about four weeks.  I've seen it fill up only a few times - most of the time it's been close to empty.

With our National Park Pass it's only $2.50/night. We have always stayed in the RV Loop with our 21' TT and most of the sites could accommodate much larger rigs.  They all have picnic tables and fire rings.

There is NO CELL SERVICE here. Hiking to the top of the sand dunes across the street will sometimes get a faint Verizon signal. Usually we drove down the road about 5 miles to get a signal.

There are new pit toilets in the group camping area and another set in the back loop.  There are dumpsters near the entrance.  No water, no dump station, no hookups of any kind.  For the cost of Day Use admission ($10) at the nearby Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park you can use the dump station and fill your water tanks.  $2/person for a hot shower.

While there is a lot of free, dispersed camping all along Hanson Road, the mostly level sites here are probably worth $2.50 a night.  It was a great home base for us.  We did a day trip to Bryce, several trips to Zion, the Wave lottery, and many points of interest in the Kanab area.
