Gem outside Zion

Review of Kolob Campground (private campsite), Booked on Hipcamp.

My cousin and I had a fantastic camping trip at Kolob Campground. Campsite #4 was great with privacy and direct lake access. No bug/ mosquito issues when we went in September. Weather fluctuated from 70s in the day to 30s at night. High elevation of 8100' makes for a great escape of summer heat. Sitting and hiking along the reservoir was peaceful and idyllic. Nighttime stargazing and sunrises were great!

Lots of nearby sites to visit as day trips. Lava Point is a nice view point worth stopping by on the way. We also detoured up to Cedar Breaks National Monument which was a beautiful place to see the sunset. It's basically a mini-Bryce canyon without crowds. Plus, the pup was allowed on the Sunset trail, an easy, paved 2mi trail. Would recommend taking the 15 fwy back if you go for sunset to avoid any mishaps or wrong turns on the bumpy, unpaved Kolob terrace backroads. Zion NP Kolob Canyons road is also a nice place to check out on the way.
