Nice stay atop the hill
I typically rate campgrounds as they fit into 1 of 5 categories. This campground will be rated as an “along the way” stay — grounds that you seek out for a night or two as a place to simply stay the night along your journey to regroup and get some sleep. Ratings for this category are based on: Cost: 5 Overall grounds: 4 Utility of sites (hookups, level ground, accessibility): 5 Noise: 4 Reservation Process/Ease of Getting a Site: 4 Layout: 4 Customer Service: 5
What they say is true: this is an RV Park on top of a hill. We didn’t have high expectations knowing a Walmart is 2 miles away, but the views were actually quite nice! Staff are so, so friendly and helpful and the overnight stay is $30 (with GoodSam) for full hookups (many spaces are pull thru).
We thought it was really a nice spot to unhitch for the night. Fort Stockton doesn’t have a ton of draw but we were able to run a couple errands, do laundry and wash our tow vehicle in town!
The layout of the park is fairly standard. Gravel spaces, somewhat close together and no privacy in between, but they do have a small patio and picnic table. Hookups were reliable and easy to access.
The pool looked really nice though we didn’t use it. The wifi was very solid, though they ask you don’t use it to stream. The laundry room was pretty clean.
There is some road noise from I-10 as it passes immediately by the campgrounds, but we didn’t find it a nuisance overnight. Their website is pretty primitive so you have to call for reservations but they have a limit on how far out you book... I think it’s 45 days. A good stop as you make your crawl across the massive state of Texas.
