Good state park with below average camping

Park is very large and some of the wooded areas have been meticulously cleaned. Lake access from campsite is steep with views significantly affected by trees. Bathhouse is clean and well maintained. Staff is professional and courteous. Site #37 felt significantly sloped to me for our setup.

Good Campground except for the Yellow Jackets

Croft State Park is a really nice campground for RV and travel trailer camping. For tent camping, it is just okay. I say that because of the gravel surfaces at the campsites. Fortunately, I took a cot to sleep on, for even with a foam pad and an air mattress, I think sleeping would be uncomfortable. The site I stayed on did have water and electricity, which was fortunate since it is very hot there in August. My mistake was not taking a large enough fan.

The bath house was conveniently located, and it was air conditioned. There were hot showers, and when I say hot, I mean hot. If you take a shower in their bath house, I suggest that you do not turn the water all the way to hot to begin with. Otherwise, you will burn yourself. Although there was a soap dispenser in the bath house, you will need to take your own soap. The dispenser was empty.

There is a beautiful lake at the campground, which allows several opportunities for fishing. There is a fishing dock and several types of watercraft rentals. There is also miles and miles of trails for hiking, biking, and horseback riding. I was amazed at the number of trails.

Another section of the park is devoted to equestrian camping, and there is even a show arena. For those who want to primitive camp, there is a place for that as well. I would have given the campground four stars, but because of the gravel sites and the yellow jackets, I could only give it three. The yellow jackets were out of control.

I would suggest some pest control measures. I realize that most campers are in RVs and travel trailers, but tent campers also need a more appropriate place to camp than on large gravel surfaces.

Croft State Park Love

Our first RV experience with our first camper. Croft is clean with clean bathhouses. Camp ground A sites are bigger than B. We spent 3 nights on #29(B) mod slope to back in but easy leveling. 26 ft trailer with adequate room. All sites and road are gravel. B camp sites face lake Craig thru the trees. Rent kayaks and Jon boats. No gas motors. Nice bank and dock fishing. Lots of trails of varying difficulty. Hike, Bike and horse trails with stables. Historic sites. Very friendly staff. We will be back.

Shakedown trip with new first camper

Great state park. Easy back in some pull through. Spacious clean sites. Many historic hiking trails easy to mod. Horse trails with stables. Bike trails. Lake Craig is nice fishing with rentable Jon boats, kayaks and SUP. No gas motors or swimming. No pool and dump station only. Playground and clean bathhouses.

Peaceful & friendly

Compared to some other state parks in SC, this one was less crowded and more peaceful. It had rained right before we arrived, and we got stuck in the mud trying to back-in our pop-up on a hill (lake campground #29). The campers all pitched in to pull us out. It was silent at night. Nice hiking around lake, fishing, and boat rental. Saw some turtles while paddling, and there were frogs and lots of fireflies near our campsite. We enjoyed seeing the equestrian visitors too.

Very nice campground!

Though the sites are stone that is so over shadowed by the great views of the lake, nice little camp store. Nice tall trees to help cool, come summer. There is a concrete walkway along the lake shore with a few large swings at it’s edge. The walkway leads to a fishing dock. E, W, dump station

Very nice, secluded area.

Our first camping, and in December, no less. Few campers, but spacious sites. I collect local fallen tree limbs to burn. Lots of them around! Great hiking trails, but most bike trails closed because of a bridge failure. I would return in an instant.

Nice hiking trails

It’s also a horse camp with a large ring. The first camping loop is the best. Head back to the end of the camping loop away from the office and find a trail that leads down to a nice swimming creek. Great place for exploring all over the park. Sites were well spaced with picnic table and fire ring.

Super quiet

Really quiet and very relaxing. We had a campsite overlooking the lake. It was very beautiful. However there are no poles for the trash so the squirrels tore our trash out and there are aweful flying bugs at night. Millions of tiny bugs covered our lights at night. We had to turn our lights off. Not the campgrounds fault though. Other than that we enjoyed our weekend here.

Not my favorite.

The roads going into the state park and the roads in the campgrounds themselves are very rough.

Beautiful park

I camped here at the end of February and did some canoeing on the lake. The lake was beautiful and the park is full of nice trails, including a lot of mountain bike trails. I was not very impressed with the camping location. It was geared more toward RV's rather than tents. They offer hike-in camping as well.

Cute park hidden away

Croft State Park was right on our route so it was a convenient spot. However, it turned out to be really nice too!! It is on a lake and there are trails in the campground for exploring. There are plenty of sites with a great view of the lake. Also, they supposedly have a big event every year for Halloween. We weren’t there for that, but it seems fun! The staff was super nice as well. This was a great way to spend a few days enjoying the lake view and getting caught up on work!

We love this campground

We camped here for a few days and loved this park. Plenty of hiking and fishing. We did not have to leave the park for anything. Everyone was very friendly. Some of the sites are not very level but you can do it. We will definitely be going back to this park. They have two different campgrounds and this park is geared towards horse back riding

Could be closer

The price of primitive camping. Youd think it be closer to the lake. Not many sites for tents. About 50 for RVs. But tents like only 8 😭

It's my favorite State Park in SC.

It's a nice, quiet campground. The bathhouses are good. Lots of activities. Kayaking, boating, great hiking/biking trails, and lots of area of horses. Every 3rd Saturday they have house competitions that are held there. We were in campsite 8 this time. Nice and level with water and electric.

Great for equestrians

Spent many weeks here over the past few years. Its a clean and well maintained park with beautiful trails and lake. Perfect for equestrian as most of the trails are horse friendly and there is a large arena free to use. The barn is clean as well and provides stall shavings for a small fee.

Feels quaint and serene but isn’t far from a suburban area

state Park with equestrian facilities, a lake for fishing and boating, paddle boat rentals, and lots of liking and equestrian trails. Bath houses and dump stations. Many flat camping spaces and lots of shade. A camping store on site and many other stores within a five minute drive.

Typical state rec area

We enjoyed our stay at Croft in May of 2017 - it was plesant and scratches the itch to be out in the woods but nothing to write home about. The tent and RV sites are very close together with no privacy - almost just an open area. However the primitive sites are more seculded but still a short hike to the parking area and moderately well cared for bathhouse. We enjoyed the short hike to wade in the stream!

Great for horses

This park has two camping loops. 1 is on a small lake and the other is through the woods. Some sites are a bit slanted which can make leveling a pain, but overall the sites are nice. They offer horse stalls, nice riding trails, and a show ring. I've also seen some pretty big bass pulled out of the lake.
