Hornbeck's River Boat In Campsites — Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area

Primitive Riverside Camping

This site is part of the DEWA NRA system of primitive river sites between Milford and Delaware Water Gap.  All river sites, including the three Hornbeck sites, are paddle-in only, first-come first serve, FREE (see note below), and include a fire pit.  It is primitive so there are no other facilities at the sites.  During the summer, it is often a challenge to find an open site on a Saturday night, especially if you have gotten a late start on the river or are approaching the southern end of the park.  Hornbeck is a great location, just below the half way point of DIngman's Access if you are paddling the entire stretch.  These three sites also have easy access to the multiuse McDade Trail, so after pitching your tent, a short walk upriver on the trail will bring you to the Dingman's Campground, whose store has ice cream and cold drinks and to Hornbeck Creek waterfall trail.  Important Note:  Recently the NPS held discussions about charging a fee for site use and enacting a reservation system.  While that has not yet been enacted, please check the NPS website before planning your trip.
