Tall Cliff Overlooking an Old Lighthouse, Overlooking Endless

I parked my car just outside Ecola State Park, just north of Cannon Beach. I hiked 2 miles north along the coast to the surfer/evening photographer paradise of Indian Beach. There was a big wide trail and a rougher trail, both 2 miles up to a 'primitive' campsite. Ahh primitive… such a relative word… there were three well-built open cabins, each with 4 wooden bunk beds and room on the floor for a couple more to sleep, + you could camp within a small radius around them. A large communal fire pit was right in the middle, with a covered area and nice bathrooms nearby, with nice signage throughout the area, including full maps and history of several Lewis & Clark lookout sites. You can see old military bunkers, whales for a lot of the year if you're patient. The real jewel is the large cliff view 100-200 area yards from the campsite, sitting about 100 yards above the ocean. In the distance you can see an old lighthouse, which fades as night filters down and endless layers of nightlights appear. Worth the free price of admission. The trail goes north for 3-4 miles to Seaside, the Coney Island of the Oregon Coast. I headed back the other way after an amazingly deep night of sleep.
