Super!
Some campsites are big and more private than others
Some campsites are big and more private than others
Out of all the State park I have been to this one by far the best one. Other than lack of trees the campsite are clean, facilities are clean. Have a recycle and trash location at multiple spots. If you want a good get away weekend this place is it.
Steps to the beach? ✅ In the forest? ✅ Access to amazing hiking? ✅ Private? ✅ We love Cape Lookout for all the diverse scenery it has to offer. Spend the day on the beach or wonder through the old growth forest. Most of the campsites are great, although we prefer loop C. A gem on the Oregon Coast!
This was to be our second trip to cape lookout, our last was four years ago. The park was no extremely overgrown and the sites appeared to have unkept long term campers! We didn’t stay! Went down the road to cape Kiwanda and had a nice night.
This was my first visit to Cape Lookout, or camping on the Oregon coast, for that matter. The RV sites are separated from the tent sites, which is nice. Most of the tent sites are fairly open, some of them have more privacy, but all of them are very green and incredibly close to the beach while still being somewhat protected from the wind coming off of the ocean.
Bathrooms were relatively clean, though you always have someone emptying all of their camp trash in the bathroom trash can (pizza boxes? Really?) so it's hard to keep up. Staff were knowledgeable and helpful.
A truly beautiful place.
Cape Lookout was an awesome little place right on the beach! I would wake up every morning and go out to the beach to watch the waves. Our stay was relaxing and beautiful. There are a TON of campsites at this campground, so you'll be sure to find one you like. The bathrooms and showers were clean which is always nice. There was a little store that sold firewood, and even a junior ranger program that my little cousins did.
The beach out in front of the campground was super nice, because it was sandy unlike a lot of the other beaches we had seen up the coast. Check out cape lookout trail, it was a nice moderate little hike. We still got our fill of the rocky beaches when we drove up the washington coast. It wasn't too far, and we spent one day road tripping up and back down the coast looking for cool hikes.
All around great place to stay, no complaints!
In May/June I rode a bicycle down the coast of Oregon. Cape Lookout was the first hiker/biker camp I stayed at after leaving Portland, and it set the standard by which all other camps would be judged.
The area around camp is fairly rural until you crest Whiskey Creek Road (heading south). Neterts Bay spreads out in the distance, along with a dense pine forest. The road in is smooth and blacktopped. The trip in will overwhlm the senses with the lushness of all the green (in the spring), the freshness of the fragrances and the always magic of the Pacific.
Camp itself splits in two parts. RVs, Car Campers and Tents on the north side. Hiker/Bikers on south. They are connected by both beach, trail and a blacktop road to a day use area.
The north side is nice but fairly packed in. You better like your neighbor. There are also yurts and cabins available on this side. The cabins looked more appealing being a little separated at the foot of the North Trail. I camped on the south side so this review primarily reflects that space.
The hiker/biker site was flipping awesome. A dozen plus sites tucked under giant trees but close enough to ocean to view it through the trees, and listen to the crashing waves at night. The sites were close to each other but the ground growth including ferns reaching over my head made for a fairly private camping experiences.
Also, awesome amenities. After a long day of riding (or hiking) Cape Lookout offered:
There was also plenty of firewood lying around, as well as bundles available at the entry. There are plenty of hiking trails leading out both sides of the camp, and you can go for over 3 miles along the beach out of camp towards the Neterts Bay Peninisula.
Oregon Hiker Biker Sites are $7-8.
*Pro-Tip: If you are headed south on foot or bicycle there is an 875' climb immediately leaving camp. It is a beast. Fairly vertical. There is a lookout point about halfway up you'll run into plenty of others who need a break.
Amazing state park
Very fun Campground. Around so many cool things to see and do. I love the Oregon coast, this is a must stop when in the area
After visiting several Oregon Coast state parks and campgrounds, I must say that this campground is in its own class in terms of scenic beauty and accessibility to the beach, which is linked by several hiking trails, including the famous Cape Lookout trail that takes one to the tip of the peninsula for great whale watching, a seasonal waterfall, and fun small coves unveiled during lower tide.
We did not stay within the campsite, however walking through it we were impressed by the relative peace and quiet even during the summer, the number of campgrounds more secluded in the interior areas and those that neighbored majestic old-growth fir trees. We would definitely want to return and stay in one of the few highly coveted cabins that are on the north end of the state park. From the exterior, they appear to have ample front porches for barbeques with family and friends, and each cabin is strategically spaced to allow for maximum views.
Whenever we have tried booking a campsite it has been a challenge due to its popularity, so doing so well in advance is advised!
One of the best beach in Oregon.
Loved camping at cape lookout. Walk to the beach is hard to beat. Well kept sites. Got drenched one day but a beauty when the sun came out.
This campground is one of my top five faves. Right behind the dunes, bathroom with showers, shady spots and sunny spots, just right for any season. Yurts and cabins - you’ll be able to book if you’re fast enough. It’s an always booked out gem at the pacific coast!
Great for hiking!!! Beautiful views!
When we Stayed: Early December, Wednesday-Friday
Overall Experience: secluded cabins made for a private, relaxing trip.
Cabins: there is a group of cabins away from the main campground so they're quiet and private. We had a shower, toilet and kitchenette. The parking lot is a bit of a walk from the cabins but they provide wheelbarrows to haul your stuff up to the cabin.
Location: a quick walk down to the beach and easy hiking trails in the woods. The cabins were up on a bluff in the woods so you could just barely see the ocean through the trees.
Good yurt I got to share with my dog
Went tent camping here in summer just for the hike out on cape Lookout. Made in with two kids and dog in about two hours and did some whale watching for about 20-30 mins. The views are spectacular from the Cape. We would definitely hike/camp here again as it was great location for some peace and adventure.
I’m used to private spaces in the trees instead of seeing everything everyone around me is doing. I imagined waking up to the sound of waves, and not a baby crying. I imagined relaxing on a beach instead of hanging with 100 other people at sunset. But, the facilities were clean and despite having no privacy it was a welcome getaway. We wouldn’t do it again...
We stayed in zone A, which made for a fast and easy walk to the beach. The beach itself was beautiful- soft sand, long stretches in either direction. Not incredibly crowded or busy, which was great considering it was midsummer.
Super friendly beach camping sites on the Oregon Coast- cabins are safe and stormproof for great storm watching in winter/spring months. Steps from tidal pools means great beach combing in dry weather!
Beautiful beach and multiple campground options from cabins, to group camping, to large tent sites, to yurts! The beach is only a walk away. There is also an off leash dog area and picnic areas for large parties and weddings. Clean campground and beach. The showers are clean and hot - great friendly staff. We return every year!
CAPE LOOKOUT HIKE - see photos! Plan to be out in the train for 3-4hrs. The hike is not long, but there are plenty of FUN obstacles along the way like roots, bridges, and many views. You can often spot whales in March-May.
We stayed in a cabin here. The cabin was great, perfect size for relaxing for a few days. The kitchen/fridge/front porch grill were great. Full bathroom. We used an air mattress on the bed over the pad that was provided.
The trees/forest were beautiful, and so was the ocean, which is a short walk away. You can sit on the front porch and watch the sunset through the trees while listening to crashing waves. That's hard to beat! We also hiked to Cape Lookout (a little over 9 miles out and back from the cabin). Great vacation!
if your looking for beach camping, Cape Lookout is a great option. The campsites sites are good (although some are pretty exposed) with lots of room between you and your neighbors. The best part of the campground is that all sites are about 50 yards from the picturesque Oregon beach.
A bit out of the way of the 101, north of Pacific City, I really enjoyed this campsite. The campsite itself is pretty standard, we got a unique spot with a few trees and bushes for a hammock. Walking distance to the ocean and a lot of cool spots. Wasn’t too full when we were there, probably one of the less populated sites
Just stayed at Cape Lookout this week and we loved it! We stayed in Loop C at site C25. The site was one of the few set amongst trees so there was a little more privacy than other sites. It was located near two clean bathrooms with showers and hot water. We could hear the ocean from our site and it was a short walk to a gorgeous sandy beach! Our 6 year old had a great time playing on the beach. There was firewood for sale. A great area to hike and see other attractions along the coast. We will definitely return.
This is a busy state park campground and you should expect to see and hear lots of nearby campers, especially on summer weekend. That being said, it was a great place to stay. It's only a short little walk to the beach, depending on where your camp spot is. There are flush toilets, running water, and there is even firewood for sale. Even with lots of campers, it was designed well and there is a little privacy.
This campground has improved a lot over the last couple years and most all campsite are trailer accessible - as long as you don’t exceed the length.
Amazing agate and sand dollar hunting as well.
This spot was BY FAR our favorite! There are some gorgeous beaches here and the sunsets are flawless! The campground was very family friendly and made for an awesome place to spend the weekend. The bathrooms were very clean and there were paths close to most sites for the bathrooms. The site itself was roomy and private. There was A LOT of wildlife here! From hummingbirds to martens that growled throughout the night and freaked me out. Beautiful campground and will definitely be going back.
Nice and close to the beach, only issue is beach access for those who have trouble walking over large unsteady rocks.
