Still a great campsite
Fort Hamby continues to be one the very best campgrounds in the region. Low cost ,beautiful views, water access, quiet.

Before we even got to the park we got an email from the park staff telling us our site was open and we could arrive early if we so desired. Never had that great service before! The campground is spread out, most of the sites are very private. Restrooms and showers were clean but dated. It was quite hot, so we spent some time at the nice lake beach that is part of the park. A good spot to cool off! Site 21 was very private, and well off the street, wide enough for the pop-up and a 10x10 canopy. A very nice spot to enjoy a weekend.
Nice bathhouse, most sites are good size. Easy access. Nice swimming area. Super sweet gatehouse people. We have had a little aggravation with hornets.
These great wooded sites have lake access and are nicely separated. There is a swimming area, boat ramp, playground, volley ball court, and disk golf. Quiet
For a weekend that just started out wrong (double conjunctivitis, sinus infection, son didn’t seat the camper correctly on the ball hitch... yep, we dismounted my friends!) The campground was a terrific place to get some much needed rest and relaxation. The secluded spots are a friendly distance from your neighbors and the water was peaceful and serene.
Fort Hamby is located near Wilkesboro NC. This campground is operated by the Army Core of Engineers and is a well kept campground on W Kerr Scott Reservoir. We were most excited about disc golf, the deer we saw and the swimming beach. The little kids also loved the playgrounds and horseshoe pits that were along the road.
I loved the large campsites! In fact, not being able to see any of our neighbors made us feel so much more remote than we were! I liked being able to go into town if we needed something (or wanted real food) and come back to wilderness.
Aside from the beautiful sites, we loved the group camp area and thought about bringing our school children back here for a camp-out. Being less than 2 hours from home, with private bathhouse and basketball court and large shelters with cooking grills etc. - this could be a very fun end of the year celebration!
Army Core of Engineers. Super clean and the host is the best. A must do.
Beautiful place! We camped there toward the end of October 2018. Campsites are level and plenty long enough. Bathhouse was extremely clean. Hosts were very friendly and helpful. We camped with 3 other families. It’s a little hilly for kids to ride bikes, but the 6 kids with us managed to have a great time on theirs! We did not take advantage of the swimming area, but I would not hesitate to use it. Great place to launch a boat. Lake was gorgeous! Absolutely the easiest and cleanest dump station we have ever used! Well designed! Close to Willesboro!
This COE campground is well built and well maintained, and not so old. The windy roads are narrow in many places, with little or no shoulder. There's a wonderful 'in the woods' feel, and some sites are closer together than others. Sites are well graveled and level, with picnic table, fire-ring, and lamp hanging posts. The staff is friendly. Sites have water and electric, but no sewer. There is a dumpsite near the front office. A short drive from campsite is a man-made beach with lake swimming area… very nice.
