The Best Camping Near Moravian Falls, North Carolina

We camped here one night. Family owned. Very very nice people. This is an older campground that needs repair. Mostly long term campers. Convenient to falls. At one time this was probably a very popular place, but pool and water slide have been closed for years. Sites were small and quite muddy.

If you can get past the fact that the building with the camp store looks like something out of Hoarders, there's piles of stuff stacked up all over inside &amp; out &amp; abandoned boats you'll find that this is North Carolina's Crystal Lake. The pool &amp; water slide have been neglected sitting unused for many years &amp; a haunting reminder of better days. It's creepy, run down, a lawsuit waiting to happen &amp; either needs an overhaul or they need to close. The upper campground looks like it's mostly full timers &amp; getting a rig up there would be a challenge to say the least. The ones that are occupied have stuff piled up outside it &amp; that's also where you find the cabins but considering the state of disrepair the rest of the place is in I'd be worried about falling through the floor. There's an old abandoned camper that's obviously been neglected from the 60's &amp; I didn't even want to know what was waiting on the other side of the bathroom door up there. The lower campground was close to deserted complete with a old van &amp; hippie, a pop-up camper with tent &amp; another pop-up camper with a tarp over it. The only way to distinguish between the overgrown grass &amp; the campsites are the pole with a number on it. If you have more than 2 people you have to put picnic tables together &amp; the fire rings are car rims without the tire. The shower house is cinder block tombs with rotting bedroom doors &amp; the bathroom is several porta potties sitting around. In the back part of the lower campground there was an old building half enclosed/half open &amp; stuff piled up around it. The only good thing about here is the waterfall. I don't make a habit of writing reviews this negative but this place should come with a warning label.

We visited in April 2021.  Our first trip with our new to us camper.  We have camped before but in a popup for years.  Our site was very small and we could not put the awning out because of trees.  I like trees but this site was too small.  We were in a upper loop and most sites were permanent campers.  The buildings were not in very good shape and the pool/slide was closed permanently.   I am giving this place 2 stars but we won't be back.  If you just want a place to park it for a night or 2, it's OK.

Small sites, needs a lot of updating/repairs

This campground is r pop, so to speak. Owners Anita and Ken are some damn good folks who make you feel at home wind that's more than enough reason to come stay here for a while and enjoy the beauty and peace of this great setting.

Low in amenities, high in friendliness

this was our first campground in our first camper and we really loved it. we stayed for a week when we only planned on staying for a night. We were right on the creek they put us in the best spot there was. there were nights that there were only 3 campers there and when merle fest came it was slam full. you can swim in the creek it gets to about 3 or 4 feet at the deepest. it’s really peaceful and beautiful. our neighbors were regulars there and they were happy to help us figure things out when we had any beginners troubles. the owner was a very kind older man and his wife. really enjoyed our time there.

The stay at the cabin with my wife was a true blessing.  Amazing atmosphere, quiet and peaceful.
