Rombo Campground is located near Darby in the Bitterroot National Forest, surrounded by forested terrain. Temperatures range from 20°F in winter to 85°F in summer. Nearby attractions include the Bitterroot River and Lake Como, offering opportunities for fishing and hiking.

## Overview

 Rombo Campground is located in a scenic area along the West Fork Bitterroot River in the mountains of southwestern Montana. The area is home to a variety of big game and wildlife, and provides access to a number of outdoor activities, including fishing, seasonal rafting and various trail opportunities.
## Recreation

 Fly fishing and wading in the West Fork Bitterroot River are popular activities. During high water season, kayaking and rafting are available as well. Painted Rocks Lake is just five miles south of the campground. Visitors enjoy swimming, boating and fishing. Anglers will find mountain whitefish and a variety of trout. Many trails and unimproved roads in the area are great for exploring by bike or off-road vehicle. Hiking trails to various mountain peaks are nearby.
## Natural Features

 The campground is located along the West Fork of the Bitterroot River. Large yellow-barked ponderosa pine trees tower above many of the campsites, which along with fir, aspen and lodgepole pine, provide pleasant shade. The campground is situated at an elevation of 4,600 feet. A variety of wildlife makes its home in the area, including bald eagles, mule and white-tailed deer, moose, elk, bighorn sheep and numerous songbirds. 
## Nearby Attractions

 The Alta Ranger Station, located on the West Fork of the Bitterroot River, was the first Forest Service Ranger Station in the United States, built in 1899. It remains a popular tourist location and is a short distance from the campground. Horse Creek Hot Springs is about 29 miles from the campground and can be accessed via a gravel road with a high-clearance vehicle.A post office and a general store can be found in Conner, 16 miles from the campground. Darby is 24 miles from the campground. It is a full-service community with fuel, lodging, a grocery store, and other local businesses.

The Best Camping Near Conner, Montana

Montana is such a beautiful place to visit. We come every summer but try and hit a new spot in Montana every time. We like experiencing new places, new hikes and new campgrounds! This place was great, definitely met all our needs!! The campground was super clean! We didn’t spot any garbage anywhere when we came! We saw some other reviews that said it was a little dirty, but we didn’t think so! The campsites were decently big, fit our RV perfectly! We stayed 3 nights and loved it. We hiked in the morning nearby, and all were amazing! The hiking in Montana never disappoints. The views are spectacular. We also saw so many deer coming in and out of the campground which we love! This seems to always happen when we stay in Montana :). Lots of chipmunks, birds and deer! We love it. There was a really yummy burger joint down the road that we stopped by on the way to the campground and on our way home! Super good burgers, fries and milkshakes!! The campground has many trees which was great for hanging our hammocks. We hiked in the morning and hung out in the campground in the evening reading in our hammocks. It was pretty relaxing!!

Beautiful!!

I reserved this a month or so in advance, a big recommendation from me, it is around 3 miles to get to the beautiful and majestic Painted Rocks lake. Camp hosts were great, I think it was Rombo Sharon/Shannon and a great guy by her side for managing the ground. Bear containers, pit toilets, potable water is available at a close distance at every camp site. Wood is chopped at host site and given if you ask for it, Lots of room- I managed to comfortably fit three full size sedans and still have room in one camp area.

This area is next to a huge river that runs off of painted rock dam.

This campground is a must for thrillseekers, recreation types, and explorers coming to spend a weekend on the lake and the deep bitterroot mountains. 

Highly recommend. Will be back.
