Lodgepole Campground is located in the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest near Anaconda, MT. ## Overview

 Lodgepole Campground is a large facility situated along a scenic highway in the Pintler Ranger District of the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest, the largest national forest in Montana. Across the street is Georgetown Lake, a popular destination for fishing, boating and water sports. Please note, this campground IS NOT within Sequoia National Park. Once on-site, you may be able to pay for your campsite(s) by scanning a QR code using the Recreation.gov mobile app, and the Scan and Pay feature. If this option is available, you will need to first download the free Recreation.gov mobile app [https://www.recreation.gov/mobile-app][1] prior to your arrival as some remote areas have limited or no cellular service. 
## Recreation

 Postcard-perfect Georgetown Lake is a prime destination for fishing and fly fishing with kokanee salmon, rainbow and brook trout being the most sought-after species. Canoeing and boating are also popular activities. Hikers, horseback riders and mountain bikers will find no shortage of trails within a few miles of the campground. It is illegal to target Bull Trout, if caught they must be released immediately with minimal handling. Participants must have Montana licenses to hunt or fish. 
## Natural Features

 Georgetown Lake boasts more than 3,000 acres of cool mountain waters at an elevation of 6,000 feet. It is surrounded by the sometimes snow-covered Flint Creek Range to the north and the Pintlers to the south. Lodgepole Campground derives its name from the long and slender Lodgepole pines, which surround the area. The lake area is also home to abundant wildlife, including moose, elk, white-tailed deer and even bighorn sheep.

The Best Camping Near Philipsburg, Montana

We passed through the area while driving on route 1 and decided to spend the night here because it was clean and quiet and relatively cheap at $15 per night. The sites are shaded and large enough for RVs. We stayed on a weeknight in July and there were 10 other campers.   

  

There are pit toilets and faucets with water, but that's about it. You can gather downed wood for campfires, and there is plenty of it. Georgetown Lake is nearby, but we didn't have the opportunity to explore it properly. There is no direct access from the campground.  

  

Of the 31 sites in the campground, 20 are reservable on recreation.gov.  We heard a pack of coyotes loud and clear in the night, and we saw a lone elk in the distance. While we enjoyed our stay at Lodgepole, it seems like more of a drive-by campground. I imagine that it is also an overflow campground for people visiting Georgetown Lake.

Clean and Quiet Campground for a Quick Overnight

Lodgepole campground is a nice sized campground sitting in a forest of mature lodgepole pines.  Campground has 31 sites, 20 of which can be reserved.  Campground has nicely spaced campsites given you plenty of room to spread out.  The campground is paved and has several clean outhouses.  All sites have a picnic table and metal fire ring.  Water is available.  Bear lockers are located through out the campground for food storage.  Campground is not on the lake, but plenty of lake access is nearby.  While the campground is just off the highway, it is lightly traveled so noise was not a problem.  Campground is nicely priced at $15 a night.

Quiet campground next to Georgetown Lake

This was a bit tight pulling our 35 ft fifth wheel, but just be careful with a couple of the turns. The campground roads need some work in spots - there were several potholes as deep as 6-8 inches - enough to jar your teeth out If you're not watching for them.

Sites are very nicely spaced with lots of sunlight and dappled shade. Everyone was pretty quiet and well mannered. I was a bit surprised by how empty this campground was during the week, despite it being summer. Mon-Fri I would say it wasn't more than 30-50% full. It did fill up on the weekends.

Stayed here two weeks in July. You're at 6000ish feet, so the weather is delightful in the summer. Some nice hiking is within walking distance, and Echo Lake is a decent workout from the campground.

There are several pressurized water spigots spaced around the campground, but oddly, they don't have a standard garden hose fitting. I have a 55 gallon bladder I fill and then I use a pump to fill my rig from the bladder. This saves me from having to move the rig to get water. The camp hosts site did have a standard hose fitting and he had no problem letting me fill the bladder several times during my stay.

There is a day use area (Red Bridge) across the street on Georgetown Lake, but there's not much there. Only a couple picnic tables and a boat ramp. No shade. No place to let the dogs swim and play fetch. I recommend going east back up Montana Route 1 a mile or so to the Grassy Point boat launch. Large parking lot with plenty of doggie access to the water for playing and fetching.

All in all, a nice place to spend a couple weeks.
