Sundling Creek is good in a pickle
Sundling Creek is an out of the way campsite on the Superior Hiking Trail. Normally we would not stop there but after the disappointment in the water source at South Bally Pond we decided to keep on trekking to a possible flowing water source that was Sundling Creek. If you are heading southbound on the SHT don't be alarmed when the mileage sign for future campsites at the Bally Creek Road (158) crossing doesn't mention Sundling Creek. I'm not sure why it doesn't but trust us it's there! If you're in a pickle and need to get to Sundling Creek quickly you could just follow 158 northwest then take the trail from the parking area a short bit. Otherwise continue on the SHT till you get to the spur trail on the right. It's a .7mile hike and you do cross active logging areas but once there you finally have flowing water. It's a small creek and nothing like we had dreamed but it was better then the warm, stagnant beaver pond of the previous campsite. The tent area is small with overgrown grass and not a lot of options but it's quiet and you have a beautiful quaking Aspen grove beside you that sounds lovely in the breeze. Of all the sites we stayed at this was my least favorite as it was solely for camping. No fun views, no river to play in but it served its purpose and could be a good starting point if you drive into the parking lot just above it in the evening, without time to hike. Or plow thru another 4.3 miles and get to the North Cascade River campsite
