Nice State Park

Lovely park to camp at! There is a beach for swimming. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring. Bathroom and showers are in the campground and there is wood available for purchase. Lot of day use and activity. Around 5-6PM or so, it starts to slow down as people go back to their camp or head home for dinner. The camp sites are pretty much on top of each other with no privacy whatsoever. In the off season it's not too bad as the campground is not so full. There was more "thru" traffic here than any state park I have been to. Seemed about every half hour or so someone would drive thru then leave. The trails are marked well and are maintained.

Sweet little state park near historic river town

If you are a little more flexible and have the capacity to do so, definitely consider the rustic campground rather than the semi-modern one. There aren't very many sites, the sites are very large, and the setting is lovely. There are vault toilets here, along with campfire pits and picnic tables, so if you need fresh water or want to shower, you can walk 7 or 8 minutes or drive over to the other campground for those.

Rustic Camping in Historic MN Town

We stayed at a walk in site in the rustic campground. It was very private and you could barely see the other walk in site next door. The man made swimming pond was a highlight and much needed on a hot summer day. We hiked the trails through the park and saw deer, turkeys, and other small wildlife. The historic Schell’s Brewery is less than 10 min. from the campsite and it was great to visit.

No privacy - sites are close

The downside is that the campsites on the inside of the rings are close together and no vegetation for privacy between sites.  The park itself is beautiful and staff was friendly. Park is right on the edge of New Ulm which is a beautiful small town with strong German heritage and lots to see and do.

Packed in Tight

We arrived at our campsite (43E) on a Thursday in early June. We first noticed that Flandrau SP was conveniently located close to downtown New Ulm. New Ulm is a lovely town with German heritage, a beautiful downtown and great beer! 5 Stars!!!
Then we got to the campsites and noticed they are very tightly packed in a small area; they are so close together and there isn’t much to block the view or noise from your neighbors. But, it was Thursday and not many people there (yet).
In the morning, we went for a hike on one of the trails, only to get half way around when we discovered it was blocked by an electric fence (no pre-warning); I guess they use goats to control vegetation growth. Sure would have been nice to know it was closed at the trailhead. And, the knats / bugs were terrible! Friday afternoon arrived and so did all of the campers! This is a popular place AND it’s noisy. -2 STARS

Note: T-mobile service is available - 2 bars.

Oktoberfest!

Camped here during Oktoberfest and had a great time. Cheep can ride into town kept us safe and responsible. They had mobile electric fences set up so that goats could graze on the invasive species plants which was pretty cool. I’d like to go back in the summertime and see the giant sand bottom pool full. Site 80 didn’t have much for privacy but the sites are well spaced out.

Early spring tent camping here we come!

Didn't get in till late evening so had to do our initial exploring at night with our handy dandy headlamps!🤪 Still fun, peaceful and even better we had the whole park to ourselves! Had tons of peaceful animal visitors including herds of white tail deer walking through our camp ground! Owls and coyotes singing in the distance... Per!!!

Overnight stay

We stayed here for an over night, the sand bottom pool wasn’t opened but we’ve used it on past visits and always enjoyed it. Sites are well maintained and the staff is friendly. We didn’t use the facilities so I can’t comment on there condition.

Beautiful State Park

This state park was beautiful. The sites were a little close and no privacy from fellow campers. There were nice walking/hiking trails. If you are there in the summer there is a sand bottom pool that looked nice. Bathrooms and showers were nice and clean. we stay in site 29 and water was right next to site.

Great hiking!

I camped in the rustic campground, the sites were spaced out a bit, but not as much as I had hoped. LOTS of owls made it tough to sleep, but it was pretty cool as well so not sure if that’s a downfall.

great for family!

Took my friends young girls there and the pool was well taken care of and clear clear clear!

Campsites were close together but that is to be expected at some state parks with drive-ins.

Nice paths that lead to other parts of the campground and for some reason the bugs wrrnt bad at all even though I was camping next to an oxbow lake.

Campsites without privacy

The campsites have no privacy at all unless you go with one of the hike in sites. we stayed at site 91, which you have about a 500 ft walk to get to. The campsite was very secluded (you can hear noise from all of the other campsites though) and large. Hiking trails are well groomed and take you through both woods and prairie. The man-made swimming lake is small but clean andwell maintained.
