clean, quiet, wildlife
Beautiful area & campground. It’s a bit of a drive on some gravel roads to get to, but it’s a beautiful drive and well worth it. Can be easy to get turned around with all of the side roads/ATV trails as well, but there are countless lakes back there to puddle jump from and fish/swim. Abundant in wildlife. We were the only campers there for the weekend & had a couple of times where a deer walked right past our camp; saw more turtles than people in the campground & surrounding area, saw a handful of trumpeter swans in the area & be able to fall asleep listening to the loons call to each other. About this time last year there were reports of a moose in the area although we weren’t lucky enough to see it. Came across a fresh pile of bear scat on our last adventure there, so come prepared for that. Potable water available from well, pit-style toilets only though. No developed beach on Moosehead, but there is one nearby st Bobcat. Nearest towns are about 15-20+ minutes and are pretty small, but the locals are nice.
