Very large , trees and woods, bring your bikes.

We visited for just one night on a fall weekday. Campground was not crowded. Our site #315 was spacious with a nice foliage buffer around it. Many nice sites, but also many small, not private at all sites. We enjoyed a hike on one of the nice hiking trails, saw many families enjoying the bicycle trails and paved park roads. There is an Inn and restaurant in the park. We talked about how nice it would be to meetup with non Camping family members at this location. There are horse stables and a winter toboggan run as well

Beautiful Park

Campground was tricky to pick out a site online. Our site ended up being pretty slanted but we were able to make it work with our tent. Beautiful park with great hiking trails. I have AT&T service and decent cell service, my husband has Verizon and he had no service at all.

Great for all seasons

With 2 beach accesses and lots of open spaces this is a great campground for the summer. The spring and fall seasons offer the camper many beautiful sights, be it flowers in bloom or the changing and falling of the leaves.

Lots to do

We visited Pokagon for a long weekend with friends. We took over sites 502, 504, 506 and 508. One thing that was clear - the sites vary in size. Sites 504 and 506 are on the smaller side; 502 was moderate and 508 was enormous. We found the bathrooms to be clean and easy to use. Was shocked to find showers just turned on (no timers). The lake is not self-contained within the park - there are houses across the way and various access points. Within the park, the lake provides a small swimming area and much larger areas for boating. Lots of motor boats and wave runners; kayaks and canoes were limited to the shoreline areas. The beach is a nice size and wasn't terribly busy. There's also a playground and snack shack on the beach. There is horseback riding for the 52-inch and taller crowd ... anyone smaller is limited to a short donkey ride. There is a natural spring near the 500 loop where you can drink fresh (and cold!) water. There are plenty of options for hiking, biking and riding horses - all with separately marked trails. There's an amphitheater for outdoor productions and the Inn also has planned events. The park says only one vehicle per site, but we noticed many sites with multiple vehicles that stayed that way overnight. Overall, it's a nice park. The only downside is the variations in size of campsites and the risk you might end up on a small site without prior knowledge of what they look like.

Campsites not as advertised

We booked our site through tue reservation page which advertised the site dimensions as 25 x 60, and included photos showing a spacious beautiful site. We were surprised and disappointed to arrive at our site to find barely enough room to put up our tent and the site overgrown with thorny berry bushes and possible poison ivy. The bathrooms are alao gross with water covering the entire floor from either the showers or toilets, or quite possibly both.

Nice campground

The campground is nice and very well maintained. The beach is lovely if crowded. The campsites are very close together and some of them are on pretty significant inclines. We had an amazing time.

Park With Everything

Pokagon (po KAY gun) has everything from a toboggan run to a lodge to lakes all around...you cannot be bored here. Open year round (limited campgrounds and services in winter). If you hike there’s even an artesian well running year round on trail #2 on the NW side of the park (see photos). This is a must-stop when you’re passing thru the NE Indiana area.

A beautiful campground for children!

This campground is beyond beautiful and clean! It’s truly an amazing campground for families, especially with small children. There are full bathrooms including showers in each of the 5 campground loops. Because of this and the openness of the campground it really doesn’t feel like you’re “getting back to nature.” Just a personal preference. Make sure to bring your binoculars, tons of beautiful birds!

Pokagon State Park - 6/4/2018

This is a great campground. We stayed one night in a non-electrical spot. The park is beautifully maintained. The bathroom and shower facilities were clean and updated. We will definitely be camping there again!

Scenic getaway!

Our family has spent the last two years here for Mother’s Day. There are great paved trails for bike riding and walking. The campground is laid out in several loops - each separate. Although it was not crowded when we were there, this would separate campers during busier times. Camping areas are surrounded by woods - trees were blooming while we camped. Read individual campsite descriptions when choosing a site. Camping area is hilly. Some sites are at the bottom of the hill and could be wet during rain. Some sites are very unlevel.

I REALLY LIKE THIS PARK

Pokagon State Park is one of the most manicured , well maintained parks I've been to. The Army Corp does some good work but Pokagon has them beat.

One of the differences is that it doesn't seem like I hardly ever see any of the Corp workers , but at Pokagon the staff was right there doing their thing, registering, guiding, informing, mowing and maintaining.

The campgrounds are well laid out with several different areas to choose from. There were several youth groups at the group campground but you could not hear them from the other campground. The sites are well spaced and provide privacy if you want it plus room for extra tents or shelters. The facilities are maintained and clean.

There is an extensive trail system to enjoy that connects with the nearby nature preserve. There are horse tours and a very nice Inn for the less "natural" crowd.

One of Indiana's original parks.

Pokagon was one of the first Indiana state parks, so there's some history here! One of my favorite memories is the toboggan run, which FYI, is seasonal. It's a ton of fun for the whole family. Also, in the winter, there's sledding, ice fishing and cross country skiing. There's a few trails and swimming and boating in the lake in the summer. The campground is standard and has a bathhouse and fire pits at each site (both electric and non-electric). There's a nice Inn as well, if you need a non campgroud place to stay in the winter. It's a great easy trip, even from Chicago. So, come winter or summer!

Pokagon State Park

Pokagon State Park has an excellent state park campground. Sites are in a well wooded area situated on 5 different loops (1 non-electric, 4 electric). Many sites are flat (good for tent camping) while others are slightly rolling hills (helps breakup the sites a bit). There is a lot to do in the park including many trails, horse riding (horse stable on site), and lake swimming on a nicely improved beach. Only cons are no full hook up and the fire rings/grills could be improved.
