      Triple H Mini Ranch

      Fantastic Layover

I was so happy to find this place when looking for a place to stay overnight with my horse. The facility has a perimeter gate as well as gates to each pasture (2). The fencing was nice metal panels between sturdy posts. There was Hotwire strung on the inside of the pasture in places to keep horses off the Arbor Vitae trees. Grass was mowed short and my horse could see another horse all night. He had a big water trough to drink from. The hosts checked on him and sent me updates through the evening while I was in town. I recommended them to others I met on my ride through the Lolo area. I was very impressed and happy with the experience.

      Hells Gate State Park Campground

Hells Gate is anything but Hell

PROS: *The campground is very shady which is great when it's 102 degrees (record breaking year). *The sites are pretty level and easy in and out.
*They irrigate so there is lush grass everywhere. *Lots of biking in park and nearby along the riverfront. *Very nice Lewis and Clark Discovery Center *Aspen and Birch Loops DO have RV hookups. Cottonwood Loop does not. *Access to the Snake River, with marina close by *Disc golf course *Close to town

CONS: *NO early checkin. 2:00 is it. They say they need the time to water and clean. They were nice about it. *Bathhouses are DESPERATELY in need of updating and the one in Cottonwood Loop mens room smelled of urine. *Can't really see the river from the campground

It was very smoky when we were there due to fires across the river in Oregon, so we cut our visit short. We will return when air quality returns though.

      Hells Gate State Park Campground

      Loud

Overall, a nice state park campground, but a little too close to the city. The bathrooms were decent, with free showers. We arrived around 6pm and the weather was weird, light rain then hail, but it stopped after about an hour. We started to settle in and then a group of maybe 30 teenage boys with a handful of “leaders” arrived around dark taking up 4 spots near us. The kids were rowdy throwing firecrackers until midnight. The leaders did absolutely nothing to stop them and neither did the campground. Luckily they slept and then all took off early around 8am after morning prayers. In hindsight, nothing against the campground other than close proximity to each other and the city and the camp host didn’t break up the “fun”

      Nice spot by the river

Great camping spot. No RV hookups, but fresh water, restrooms, and showers. Next to river but lots of shrubs. Can walk down trail to access river bank.

      Hells Gate State Park Campground

      Excellent as usual

We have tented here several times over the years while motorbike camping, this time was in our 5th with the bikes in garage. We stayed in the Birch Loop with water and hydro hook up. Nice mature shade trees with good clearance. Short walk to a great beach. Staff were great to deal with. Short drive for Costco and such. Great location for a motorbike base camp. So many great roads…especially the Spiral Highway and Snake River. When the jet boats are out playing which seemed mainly on the weekend it could be annoying to some but we really didn't notice it. Birch loop is well shielded from the river by mature trees. Happy Camping. Oh, and don't park on the grass.

      Spring Valley Reservoir

Good fishing; wooded sites are best, but expect wind and noise.

Popular park with families, so it's a bit loud until around midnight.  The tenting areas near the lake (and the RV area) are exposed to a lot of wind.  There are about 4 sites (near the trailhead) that are back in the trees and significantly less windy.  No skeeters when we were there (early June), but I suspect they're there once summer heats up.   Short trail around the lake is nice for waterfowl viewing, and if you're a fisherman I saw some nice strings of trout being carried. Seems to get some slob campers -- had to clean out a campfire ring near our site because it was full of scorched cans.   Site 15 had a nice area to hang our hammocks for sleeping, and even though it was right near the trailhead, the hikers were quiet and polite.   If you're just looking for a camping site near Moscow, it's acceptable.

      Great Park and Campsite

Super helpful staff gave us a sweet campsite. Lots of wildlife around and we were camped close to the trailhead. Great hiking and views of the river and canyon. Definitely going back.

      Spring Valley Reservoir

      Lots of amenities

This reservoir camping area has many amenities which make it nice. Great docks on the water, swimming, fishing, bathrooms, trash cans, and even a fish cleaning station. I like how the RV sites have water and electricity unlike most campgrounds in the area. This campground is located conveniently near Troy, and is about a 25 minute drive to Moscow. There is also a large Pavilion which is perfect for a large get together.

      Hells Gate State Park Campground

      Plenty to do

This is a large campground for the area and there is plenty to do around the state park. Fishing, hiking, swimming, boating, disc golf, volleyball mountain biking. The camp spots are very close to each other and there is not much privacy. It is also very hot in the summer. It would be a great place to take younger children if you are looking for lots of activities.

    What to do

Fishing opportunities: Spring Valley Reservoir offers stocked fishing opportunities with accessible shorelines. "This reservoir camping area has many amenities which make it nice. Great docks on the water, swimming, fishing, bathrooms, trash cans, and even a fish cleaning station," notes Hannah C. about Spring Valley Reservoir.

    What campers like

Natural shade coverage: Wooded camping areas provide relief from summer heat. "A very easy access campsite. Close to the town of Troy and simple setup. You can camp up by the reservoir parking lot, or further in, closer to the wooded area," explains Hayli N. about the layout at Spring Valley Reservoir.

Wildlife viewing: Areas near water attract diverse animal species. "We saw lots of different wild life. The only down side is a out of state fishing license is kind of expensive," shares Shane M. about his experience at Hells Gate State Park Campground.

Clean facilities: Triple H Mini Ranch maintains well-kept camping areas with particular attention to horse-friendly spaces. "The facility has a perimeter gate as well as gates to each pasture. The fencing was nice metal panels between sturdy posts. There was Hotwire strung on the inside of the pasture in places to keep horses off the Arbor Vitae trees," describes Nichole W., highlighting the ranch's equestrian accommodations.

    What you should know

Seasonal water quality: Water conditions can change throughout the summer months. "The water is clean and nice through most of the summer, but towards mid-August the trash can pile up a bit," warns Celine K. about Spring Valley Reservoir.

Wind considerations: Spring Valley experiences regular wind patterns that affect camping comfort. "Not particularly fond of this overrun spot. Great for families with littles. Sites are on top of each other apart from a few scattered around the res. Wind kicks up so high it's hard to make a campfire last," Rachel A. reports.

Noise levels: Some campgrounds experience higher noise levels due to proximity to urban areas. "Overall, a nice state park campground, but a little too close to the city," notes Kristina J. regarding her stay at Hells Gate State Park Campground.

    Tips for camping with families

Beginner-friendly sites: First-time campers find success at accessible locations. "Our first camping trip in the books! Lots to learn," shares Gabrielle L. about her family's experience at Spring Valley Reservoir, rating it 5 stars for beginners.

Activity variety: Hells Gate State Park Campground offers numerous recreation options in one location. "This is a large campground for the area and there is plenty to do around the state park. Fishing, hiking, swimming, boating, disc golf, volleyball mountain biking. It would be a great place to take younger children if you are looking for lots of activities," recommends Elizabeth S.

Accessibility features: Trails accommodate various mobility needs. "Very family friendly place and the trail is wheelchair accessible. Great trek along the river. Watch for rattlesnakes in the area!" cautions Celine K., highlighting both accessibility benefits and safety considerations.

    Tips from RVers

Hookup availability: Spring Valley Reservoir offers water and electrical connections at designated sites. "I like how the RV sites have water and electricity unlike most campgrounds in the area," notes Hannah C., pointing out this distinguishing feature from other local options.

Campsite dimensions: Hells Gate State Park Campground provides varied site configurations across camping loops. "Our spot was plenty long enough, but not as wide as I would have liked. There are two big trees on passenger side that prevent setting up a comfy patio. That said, the fire pit area is perfect size," explains Kyle G. about his experience in Birch Loop.

Site levelness: Most RV spots feature paved, level pads for easier setup. "The center of the loop is for groups, so noise is centralized. Other than that, good space between sites and all are pretty level and paved," observes Kyle G., noting both the spacing and quality of camping surfaces.
