Orogrande Campground #1 and #2

The US Forest Service maintains Orogrande Campground #1 and #2 within open terrain along a creek in the Nezperce National Forest. Campers find multiple sites scattered through a forested meadow, with the creek behind the campground providing a spot for water play. The valley location and tall timber limit sunlight exposure throughout much of the day.

Note that the 2022 wildfire reportedly caused significant damage to this area. No pets are permitted at this Forest Service facility. Campers looking for more sun exposure can find campgrounds near Elk City including the Five Mile area mentioned by visitors as receiving better light.

Little Nellie in the BIG Woods

Great camping area.  A number of places available through the forested meadow to camp.

The creek behind the campground is fun to play in.  Only thing is due to the valley and tall timber, it does not get much sun.  5-Mile back up the road provides much more sunshine, if one likes sunshine.

It is reported the fire of 2022 pretty much burnt up this campground.  Haven't been there to see, so camper beware...It may be many decades before it starts to return to its former glory...  :-(

Frequently Asked Questions

I don't have enough information to generate relevant FAQ questions.

Orogrande Campground #1 and #2 offers a peaceful camping experience in a forested meadow setting. The area provides multiple camping spots scattered throughout the woods, creating a natural and secluded atmosphere. A notable feature is the creek that runs behind the campground, which is perfect for cooling off and playing in during warmer months. Due to the valley location and surrounding tall timber, the campground receives limited direct sunlight throughout the day. For campers who prefer more sunshine, the nearby 5-Mile area up the road is a good alternative. The shaded environment makes this campground particularly appealing during hot summer days when a cooler forest setting is desirable.
