The US Forest Service maintains Orogrande Campground #1 and #2 within open terrain along a creek in the Nezperce National Forest. Campers find multiple sites scattered through a forested meadow, with the creek behind the campground providing a spot for water play. The valley location and tall timber limit sunlight exposure throughout much of the day.
Note that the 2022 wildfire reportedly caused significant damage to this area. No pets are permitted at this Forest Service facility. Campers looking for more sun exposure can find campgrounds near Elk City including the Five Mile area mentioned by visitors as receiving better light.
Description
Locally known as Orogrande #1 and 2, this campground occupies both sides of the road, one on the bank of Crooked River. It includes a toilet, fire rings and at least three camp pads. The non-river side is a good spot for one family or small group. The river side is an open, grassy campsite.
