Take the opportunity to travel the lovely White Pine Scenic Byway, Idaho 6, north from the quaint town of Harvard, Idaho for just over 7 miles to visit this special site. Named after an enormous, 600 year old white pine that has since been cut down due to disease (but still resides in the campground!), this cozy and inviting campground has 14 developed sites, all resting in a lush forested setting. Many hiking trails are in the vicinity of the campground, including the National Recreation Trail 224A, the East Fork Meadows Creek Trail.

The Best Camping Near Harvard, Idaho

Right off the highway, so traffic noise consistently. The trails are nice, but you don't come across water very often. Better for bikes and atv's. Beautiful trees.

Great little campground right off hwy 6, with first come first serve camping. There are only a dozen sites or so, but they're nicely spread out, wooded, and clean. They're a little noisy because some are close to the highway and there is a lot of atv/dirtbike use in this area. There's a trailhead nearby for bird watching and hiking, and mountain biking around as well. Lots to do! The USFS website is wrong about the fees, it's now $12 to camp with $2 for additional vehicles. There isn't much extra parking though, so you may end up parking on the road outside of the campground. Also, bring your own TP as there wasn't any when I was there.

We checked out campground and the giant white pine but decided not to camp there due to its proximity to a busy road. Lots of logging trucks made it awfully noisy for tent camping. Might be OK in a RV. The 14 sites are spacious and pretty, and only $8 per night. No electric hookup available. There was a network of trails for hiking and biking originating from the campground.

Sweet little spot off the road 

I really like this campground for hammock camping. I had no trouble finding just the right spot to set up my gear. 

This area is not open for winter camping. I have found few that are though. 

I found a really nice hiking trail near the campsite and spent most of the day exploring the surrounding areas. 

Our site did have a fire ring and a bench with dirt and moss cover. 

I have been meaning to come back here but it’s hard for me to explore the same place twice.
