## Overview

 Curlew Campground is located just seven miles north of Snowville, Utah, and fewer than 10 miles south of Holbrook, Idaho. The campground is adjacent to Stone Reservoir in the Curlew National Grassland. It sits at an elevation of 4,700 feet. 
## Recreation

 Stone Reservoir is closed to all motor crafts, boats and water crafts do to invasive spieces.The surrounding area is crisscrossed by numerous off-road vehicle trails. Horseback riding is allowed on the open range. 
## Natural Features

 The surrounding area is an open desert environment dotted with sagebrush and very few trees. The campground contains open, mowed lawns. Natural shade is very limited. Curlew National Grassland offers great areas for year-round birding. Some of the birds found in the area include Sage Thrasher, Vesper Sparrow, Brewer's Sparrow, Ash-throated Flycatcher and Scott's Oriole. Sharp-tailed grouse are best viewed in March and April. Nesters include the Ferruginous Hawk, Common Poorwill, Gray Flycatcher, Pinyon and Western Scrub-Jays, Juniper Titmouse, Blue-gray Gnatcatcher, Mountain Bluebird and Loggerhead Shrike. Redhead, Ring-necked duck, Canvasback and Lesser Scaup can often be seen near Stone Reservoir. Fall brings Canada and Snow geese. Wintering birds include Killdeer, Marsh Wren and song sparrows.

The Best Camping Near Malad City, Idaho

Coming from the Snake River Plain and eastern montana this campground was just like visiting home for us!  (Idaho is one of my homes)  It was a beautiful site of rolling grass underneath the dark grey skies of an encroaching storm.

  

At the campground there are a variety of campground from huge 200+ person group sites to single, double, and triple sites.  We really enjoyed having a quick lunch on the far north side of the reservoir where there are awnings with metal fire rings and numerous bathrooms.  Just a warning however that the road leading north towards American Falls was closed when we were there in early July

Curlew National Grasslands is a tiny area near Snowville, UT.  We were looking for a quiet place for an "overnight/passing through the area" spot.  Easy to reach with only 1/2 mile at most gravel.  Our experience was on a Tuesday.  NO ONE ELSE was camped there except the campground host who was camped in what we thought was the day area.  Covered picnic tables, fire rings, clean outhouses and flat sites.

Seven miles off the freeway. Not many sites like five or six. Grassy and flat with a picnic shade. Just needed a place to sleep on our way to Utah. Be aware...bathrooms are locked and water is turned off after 10/1. We did find a open bathroom over by the boat launch. 

Better than a rest stop or wal mart

This once was a beautiful reservoir and campground area.  Reservoir was a nice long stretch perfect for water skiing, jet ski and trolling.  The reservoir was upgraded with nicer boat docks in late 90s to early 00s and unfortunately the irrigation district has closed down access due to concerns for invasive species.  As clarification from the listing, there has been no confirmation of invasive species present just a protection method to prevent degradation of the irrigation resource.  Unfortunately closure has resulted in resources allowed to go to waste.  The boat dock has been drug across the boat ramp and lack of maintenance has allowed willows to begin degrading the ramp and access.  Campground and fences have been allowed to become in disrepair.  In May 2020 the campground had not been mowed and had at least one camp site occupied by what appeared to be a permanent resident/junk collector, and vehicle access has been secured to prevent vehicles from getting down near the water limiting the ability for occupants or local fishermen to access the banks for fishing without a hike.  Water access would no longer be ADA accessible.

Wonderfully quiet. Camp hosts are a cute couple. Yes, it is a little run down but not for what you are getting. 
Potable Water, very clean vault toilets,  firepit, covered tables. 
Be aware of camp robbers (raccoons) at night. Don't leave any food out!!!
The lake is low and some debris, not pretty but that is the nature of the beast with humans around.
Don't get discouraged, it isn't a place for city people.

Great Over Night Stay

Stayed last night and I get it was a Saturday but the campers had no respect for quiet hours. There was a large party going until about 1130. The party was further up the campground but a group of three or for came and hung out right next to my tent waking up my wife and I. After 20 minutes I asked them if “they were done” because it was loud and disturbing. A male in the group tried to get me to come outside and fight him. I of course did not but his attempts continued on for sometime. My wife noticed there were multiple loud conversations going on across the campground. I see a previous post about camp hosts. I can only assume they were a part of that party or just failed to keep the peace and quiet I search for when camping. 

Terrible stay

Nice large campground. Water , cell service, Beautiful vistas. Water is gorgeous. I didn't stay as I was "on my way" but if I wasn't and could afford the $15.00 a night for a single family site I would have.

I was here May 14th 2023. There was no charge until it officially opens on the 26th I didn't have an issue with mosquitoes but with the site right in a reservoir i would prepapre for them. Cows in the near by grassland lots of moo8ng at night and early morning.

Had water access at the site.

Always love driving by the crowded RV campgrounds 5 minutes to a peaceful, very reasonably priced oasis out in the country. This was a random find for us we travel somewhat unplanned in general directions. Nothing amazing here except for serene peace and quiet.
