Beautiful location for peace

This was a beautiful and quiet spot to camp. The most awesome part was the price, free! There is a time limit, you can only camp for 14 days out of 30 unless you've contacted the Parks department and gotten permission for a longer stay before you arrive. We came in on a Tuesday and there was plenty of spaces available.

The park does have a number of local "regulars" who come out to enjoy the park on the weekends and some as part of their "monthly rotation" for camper living, they were nice folks. We stayed for our 2 weeks and it seemed that Thursdays were the busiest day as people were traveling through and ended up "overflowing" from the Florence Marina Campground that is just 5 min up the road.

There is no water or power so it's definitely a "primitive camp" area and there is one permanent outhouse which they refill toilet paper in each Friday when they also pick up the trash from the camp trash cans.

We rented a JohnBoat, aka Dingy for the WestCoasters, for $35 for 4 hours from Florence Marina and so had use of their showers on that day. Eufaula has a few laundromats so we did our laundry there to get in and out efficiently. Next time we stay here I'll probably choose a laundry/shower day and rent a paid site from Florence for that day but not move my tent and just go use their shower and laundry facility (laundry does have a small cost per load). I also got ice and firewood a couple of times from Florence when I needed a restock and didn't want to go far.

Quiet and Clean Campground

Really nice campground. The Army Corps of engineers maintains the place. Kept up pretty good. Boat launch. Campsites have table, grill and fire pit. Staying one night in route to Dauphin Island, AL. Probably gets busy on weekends. First come, first serve. Free!

Quiet spot

I came in thursday evening and most spots were full. Fortunately i was able to get one of the last ones. Each come with a couple of parking spots, concrete picnic bench, trash can, and grill. I was able to get a spot on the water, but i’m pretty positive they all are on the water. The road is bumpy on the way in so take it slow.

Love it here. Been twice. There are gators . But they were on the other side of the lake. Peaceful.

Secluded

The area was absolutely beautiful and I would have loved it if it weren’t for the RV next to me that ran the generator all night. There was an alligator cruising the water while I was there and minimal bugs considering we were along water.

A real gem

This place is amazing. We had started to lose hope that campgrounds like this still exist, but apparently they do.

It’s gorgeous. It’s clean. It’s peaceful. It’s free! What else could you possibly want.

There are a lot of gators in the river, so swimming is a no go however.

There is no drinking water, but there’s a well that can be used for washing up.

FREE and stunningly perfect

Absolutely love this place. Super easy to find, you just go down a red clay road. There’s plenty of sites up close to the pond, fire pits everywhere, picnic tables, clean garbages. The trooper came by in the morning and cleaned the bathrooms and changed the garbages. Overall this place is so clean and well taken care of. We didn’t have any issues with alligators but we did wake up to seeing and hearing them in the water, but nothing to be afraid of they were very small and kept their distance. My only complain is how loud the frogs were in the night and the plentiful mosquitos but otherwise this is one of my absolute favorite free campsites I’ve ever been to.

Good tent camping

Free. Found a good spot with a view of the water. Watched the alligators and birds on the water. Was able to easily launch a canoe as there is a boat ramp. Vault toilets were available. Picnic table, fire ring, and grill at each campsite.

Secret Hideaway

Loved staying here! Takes a minute to get there, have to go down a red dirt road. It’s up next to water that has alligators you can see at night. Free campground, great place to fish, quiet & really pretty! Great place to get away from the world. We stayed in a tent during March. There were campers there but unsure of what they hooked up to.
