Great winter campground
We love this campground in the winter. We like to reserve 24 or 25 right across from the playground and close the hiking trails. It’s a great campground to bring the bicycles and enjoy the many many trails!

Oscar Scherer is full of wildlife, not far from lots of big cities. The campground itself is small but nice. Lost of sites back up to a small river but those sites right on the river are not kid or pet friendly so be careful when you make reservations. There are a lot of trails throughout the park. Many are scrub oak communities and consequently there’s a fair population of scrub jays. We also saw otters, bobcat, raccoon and gopher tortoise. The park is also adjacent to the Legacy bike trail. A linear trail that runs from Sarasota to Venice, FL. So there’s some long bike rides opportunities. Bathhouses are ok maybe a 7/10.

Clean facilities, marked trails, bicycle friendly with a bike trail, swimming lake, multiple playgrounds, guided scrub jay tours, ranger involved, kid friendly science center

We went in the middle of the busy season, so a packed campground is to be expected. But the sites on our side of the park were pretty close together, so there was no hiding it. Well kept park as many of the Florida State parks are, with several hiking trail options as well as a lake. Clean bathrooms, well paved roads - overall a nice spot on your way up the coast.
Bautiful campground. Super nice people. Ranger led programs take place nightly. We actually got to see a Florida panther on one of the trails as well as a friendly family of scrub Jay's! Our 6 yo son loved that we felt safe enough that he could ride his bike around the camp ground to play with the other campers. There are play areas for the kids.
Bathrooms were very clean! There were sinks for dish washing as well.
great facilities
sites were semiprivate. bathhouse was very clean and great HOT shower. small swimming area. creek to kayak on goes past campground. we actually stayed on creek side site. the creek was a pleasant easy kayak trip without going out if park. park is also close to beaches, restaurants, and other activities.

This was a great campground! We had close access to bathrooms and showers. There was electric on our campsite, too.

Some sites allow hammocks. Nice deep site with lots of shade. Plenty of hiking trails.

My daughter and I love to camp here. There's a nice amount of foliage between most campsites, decent restroom facilities, a playground conveniently located in one ring of the campground and the legacy bike trail runs right past the park's back exit. My only criticism would be that water hookups are shared by two sites so depending on which side your hookup is on, it could be a long stretch to reach the post.
