Typical Crowded KOA

We love the town of Mystic and all there is to do and see. The KOA is in a good location to visit downtown and nearby attractions. This is a typical KOA that has lots of things to do for kids and families but was so crowded. The pool is very popular but there are plenty of other things for kids to do like mini golf, a fishing pond, outdoor cinema, shuffleboard, volleyball, basketball, hay rides, and lots of planned daily activities. One of the most popular places in the campground was the Bar Car which is a converted bus offering frozen drinks for adults (with alcohol) and kids.

On this stay, we snagged a late reservation over a busy summer weekend so the place was packed. Our site (Q15) was all grass which was fine with us because the grass was nice and thick. There was no defined pad, instead just hookups to back in next to so you have lots of flexibility as to how you park. The back of our site was open to a large field which was nice but across the street in front of us where rental cabins that were always busy. There were no trees at our site and not too much room between us and our neighbors but that is pretty typical for the entire campground.  On this row, all the firepits were in the back of the site so you felt like you were having a campfire with your neighbors.  Some sites towards the front of the park are very close together and unlevel. If you want to be up near the action– pool, bar car, and other activities– get a site in the front section.  We wanted to be as far away from that as possible.  There is a nice tent section tucked away in the woods but you are pretty far from the bathhouse and seemed crowded and loud when we walked around in the morning. There are plenty of rental cabins and they were adding a dozen or so more when we were there. The cabins in the S section are off to themselves and have lots more space. The WiFi was horrible so we ended up using our Verizon hotspot.

We love going to Abbotts Lobster in the Rough where we can sit outside eating fresh lobster. Abbotts has great food and an equally nice view. Mystic Pizza is a must due to its popularity of the movie bearing its name which stared Julia Roberts. The neighboring town of Stonington is beautiful with historic stone buildings and an old stone lighthouse. Mystic Seaport and the Aquarium are must-sees.
