Great spot mid-week

This spot was perfect for us because we were the only ones here mid-week. A few people stopped to use the bathrooms (port-a-potties) while traveling and a few fisherman stopped. They would be very open without shade or privacy if others were here, but it being mid-week and early season before Memorial Day, we had the place to ourselves. Plenty of room for the dogs and kids to play away from the road and river. There are multiple trails to the river at the back of the sites. River is cold this time of year but clean. Very shallow in this area. Fisherman say the trout fishing is excellent and we saw many up and down the river.

Things to consider: Denver’s weather will not tell you what the weather here will be and most forecasts (if you can find one because the nearest town won’t be the same either) are inaccurate. It will be at least 20 degrees colder at night than Denver most likely so keep that in mind.

There is zero cell reception.

The roads coming in can be scary if you aren’t used to driving on mountain roads. They’re narrow, with mostly no guard rails, sharp corners and dirt roads. Take it slow. The speed limit is 20 and really needs to be. I pulled over so a local could pass me and he almost went off a steep cliff in his truck. We don’t have 4 wheel drive but other times of year when snowing it would be necessary.

The nearest store is in decker, but it has no gas or air (we got a flat tire and needed air). They have a little restaurant, ice cream shop, convenience store that is very limited but does have firewood and ice along with a few other camping supplies and fix a flat. There was also a small liquor store and guide service. They’re all connected in one building, there is nothing else there. To get to main services, you’ll have to go back to Sedalia which is 17 miles but will take you about 35-45 mins.

The locals will tell you to take 67 all the way and turn right to osprey… it’s easier to explain but is the long way (your gps won’t work to find this place). When you get to the fork with 2 dirt roads, go right instead of left to stay on 67. It’s much shorter and an easier drive. Then turn left when the road ends at the river and the campground will be on your right in about a mile.

Camping the Platte

This campground is full during the spring and summer with I believe 9 or 10 sites. There is a fee of 18.00 or 20.00 (I can’t remember). Trash and Port a potties are provided. Site is right next to the Platte River. Picnic Table and Fire Ring is provided per site. Very relaxing, great views , and respectful neighbors.

Pretty but can get crowded

This camp ground is convenient and has the river right there for fishing and playing. Beware, I find this area in general very busy on the weekends. If you like to fly fish it's a good spot to walk down to a quite area.

Open area

Not my favorite campground in this area, but it is nice. Open and somewhat exposed. Great hiking around here!

Beautiful, clean, convienent stay for fishing

Right on the South Platte River where you can walk straight out your tent and into the streams. Very well supervised, clean bathrooms, trash dumps. Fire pits with grill grate, picnic table at each site. Low to no traffic even though it is very close to the road. Only negitives we're: campsites we're fairly close to one another and campground is very close to the road.

Nice Campground

I drove through several closed campgrounds in early April and eventually came across this spot. I did not count, but there are probably 8 to 10 spots all out in the open, each with a fire pit and a picnic table. The river is only a couple hundred feet away and was peaceful to hear in the night when it was quiet. There is road traffic noise and the parking is barred off from being able to pull an rv or van into the actual spot. Even early in the season, there were 4 or 5 campsites occupied. This is a first come, first serve and at 13 dollars a night, overall it was an enjoyabe location.
