Mulebridge Campground

Within Klamath National Forest, Mulebridge Campground sits two miles up a gravel road from the main Forks of Salmon route. The US Forest Service manages this May-through-October site, which features three fire rings rather than defined camping spots. The North Fork of Salmon River runs directly alongside the camping area, providing water access and fishing opportunities.

Campers should expect no cell service and pack out all trash, as no collection service operates here. The campground includes a clean pit toilet and sees minimal traffic beyond occasional forest service and trail crew vehicles. Nine privately-owned cabins occupy the uphill side of the area. Access requires navigating single-lane mountain roads with significant drop-offs, making this spot better suited for experienced mountain drivers comfortable with challenging terrain.

Mule Bridge for the WIN!!!

Wanting to re-experience Forks of the Salmon road, I picked either Idlewild or Mule Bridge as a destination. Forks of Salmon is EPIC, but not for the faint of heart. From 96 there are many single-lane, no guard rails & straight drops to the river 100s feet down. Idlewild is next to road, so went up 2 miles of gravel road to Mule Bridge. No clear ‘camping’ area, but 3 fire rings. About 9 cabins, on uphill side that are family-owned. A few USFS & CCC trucks from trail workers. Beautiful North Fork of Salmon, bubbling right next to camp. VERY little traffic & people. Pit toilet clean!! NO trash service seen. NO cell service (Verizon) A great spot & worth a return IMHO.

Sitefire pit area just short of pit toilet/parking area, right side
