We love this spot when it's too hot near Phoenix but too cold up north. We have been going here for the last 3 years or so and have noticed it's getting more crowded and the spots fill fast. They can be pretty close to each other so you'd ideally want to get up there on a Friday if you can. We arrived Saturday early morning and there was only a couple spots left. You must camp in the designated campsites. There is a spot in the way back that is not designated but it has a campfire and is away from the other sites. You cannot camp here. We saw people get in trouble by the Ranger but in my opinion, they need to make it more clear to not camp there because it seemed to be an honest mistake. There's no sign saying otherwise but just stick to the designated sites and you'll be fine. 4 stars because of how busy it can be with very very limited amount of sites.
