    Pioneer Park

    Awesome park

The camping is just a parking lot. It’s 12 bucks a night, which in Alaska in the summer in a city is cheap. The park is like an old time amusement park without rides. It is really cool though. There is a Salmon Bake restaurant that seems very popular. We stopped in for an adult refreshment and they are very dog friendly.

    Waugaman Village RV Park

Great stay but a little on the spendy side

We liked how the campground was not right next to the main highway going through Healy and Denali. It is about 3 to 4 miles off the main road. We stayed in camp spot number nine, which was a huge spot and perfect for our 32ft camper truck and three dogs. It was unfortunately $60 per night when we stayed the weekend of July 20, 2024. Most campgrounds I’ve ever been to are between five and $20 per night. The other down side is that it is right next to the GVEA power plant so you hear a bit of noise early in the morning from the loaders back up alarms and the plant just operating. The host was absolutely incredible and one of the most friendly host we’ve ever had. The campground when he first pulled into it and passed the office is a little sketchy because it looks like a somewhat rundown place but as you get farther back, the camp spots are nice and big power and water. The dump station unfortunately was on the wrong side when I left and I didn’t have a long enough hose so I had to go out circle and come back in just to dump my tank and luckily no one was in a camping spot so I was able to turn back around and leave. Spot number nine is at the very end on the right and thankfully no one was parked across the drive from us because I needed that whole spot just to back in my camper so if you don’t know how to drive your rig I recommend not going here. I don’t want to discourage anyone from going here with the large price noise from the power plant and somewhat sketchy looking buildings on the property when you first arrive because it was a great stay and mostly quiet because it was so far away from the main road, and the host also made it worthwhile.

    Tanana Valley Campground

    Camp in Fairbanks

This is a great location, right in Fairbanks by the fairgrounds. Don’t book site 28 or 27 as you will end up camping in a parking lot. Also, the bathrooms are closed for the season so to take a shower, we had to walk through a dog show in the fairgrounds to get ourselves clean. Laundry is good!

    Pioneer Park

convenient and low cost stay in Fairbanks

We stayed here in a 40' 5th wheel. We parked in the west row along the trees. This was a good spot, but the sun goes behing the trees about 5 in summer, if you are looking for solar charging. We noted that the parking rules are pretty loose as to where you stay. If the RV spots are full, we saw several just pick a spot in the regular lot.  If you keep a clean area you may be able to stay more than 5 days, we did.  The water spigot is on the south side of lot near the turn in. The trash cans can get full quick.  The pay stand is on the north side of lot near the first entrance to Pioneer Park, by the small shack. No out of state checks. You can also pay in the office inside the park during business hours.

It can be noisy at times because of the close intersection. Some generators are LOUD and one guy ran his about 12 hours a day. I would think an extra battery would be cheaper than all that fuel.

It is a very busy place with the park and Alaska Bake activity. Lots of cars and the lot gets pretty full with that sometimes.

Free dump and water fill at the Sourdough gas station located at Van Horn and Lathrop streets just a few miles south, with easy rig access.

We would stay again if we ever go back to Fairbanks.

    roadside camping spot

Stay while waiting for appt in Fairbanks

Waiting on an appointment in Fairbanks. Drove out of the city and found this place. It is close to the highway but was pretty quiet for sleeping.
Good open area so solar and Starlink were happy. Easy to get level.
Was a little buggy when we were there. Good spot to kill some time and relax outside Fairbanks

Rivers Edge RV Park & Campground

    Awful place

The sites are crammed together. The neighbors sewer pipe right next to your picnic table. Lots not mowed. Had to walk through weeds. Staff very unfriendly. I would rather stay at walmart.

Rivers Edge RV Park & Campground

    On the River

This is a tight campground, but it does have the river, cabins and a restaurant close by.  The campground offers wifi.

    Pioneer Park

Level parking lot, access to Pioneer Park

Great location. Level. Water available. Stopped to restock after Denali visit. Pioneer Park also has some food vendors - had me done tacos

Next to fairly busy road - quietens down overnight, but not completely

    5 day limit

    Healy Overlook

    Beautiful local overlook spot

This is an area that locals like to keep somewhat a secret. A beautiful overlook point that you can be camping right across from Mt. Healy with wonderful views of Sugarloaf mountain. The road is a bit patchy so rental cars or delicate cars probably shouldn’t be taken out there. Just a makeshift fire pit and a spectacular view out there but it is worth it. This particular spot is right next to one of the roads to other local campgrounds so be prepared for other cars to drive by occasionally. Because it’s a local spot we must ensure it is kept clean!
