Hidden Gem right on the water

We stayed in spot 36. We we're very close to the water with a little cutout to walk down to the water. Bathrooms were clean but had no AC, they we're fairly close to the site. Pull through site was easy to park but required side to side leveling. Verizon cell service was okay, bounced between 1-2 bars with 10-20 mbps. Quite a drive from Montgomery but well worth it for the morning views out over the water. Just a warning that the ants were crazy! We're still cleaning them out of our camper.

Mostly shaded sites

Prairie Creek Campground was mostly empty during our 1 night stopover. It is an attractive, wooded campground with mostly shaded sites. Sites along the lake tended to be closer together than I like, but with great views. Sites across the street tended to offer a little more space and, in some cases, more privacy. There were only two other occupied sites in our loop at the opposite end of our section. I had picked a secluded, wooded campsite away from the lake, but was able to move to a secluded, lakeside campsite which turned out to be one of the most enjoyable of our 6 week trip. The bathhouse was old, but clean. It was pleasant to walk the dog around the campground with the added benefit of also being able to walk through the old abandoned campground that was destroyed by a hurricane.

Beautiful Well Kept Campground

We stayed here for one night while traveling through Alabama. Looks like most of the sites are level with concrete parking pads. Many great waterfront sites with lots of big shade trees. No sewer sites, but the bathrooms are centrally located and an easy walk. This campground even has a laundry with pay washer and dryers.

Wonderful Campground

This is everything I want in a campground except it has no sewer sites. Flat campground that is easily walkable and can ride bikes. Two of the three bathhouses are well maintained. The bathhouse at the dump station is in Bad need of repairs. Most sites have water views and access. They have laundry as well.

Excellent spot to pitch a tent

We needed a place in a pinch since we got on the road in the afternoon. Spoke with a very nice man on the phone (Jim Scott if memory serves me) who directed us to book online... $18 for the night and we had running water, a fire pit, and a decent little plot overlooking a section of the Alabama River. In the morning we showered in the nicely maintained facilities and dropped our canoe in the water from the boat ramp to explore Woodruff Lake which was fantastic. The park was well maintained and aside from a dozen or so RVs it was mostly vacant on a Wednesday night. Highly recommend.

Some sites better than others.

We stayed here over the 4th of July weekend so it was very busy, even with some rain showers.

We stayed at site 23 for 3 nights. this site is located next to the boat ramp and parking lot so there was a lot of traffic. It’s next to the water but 3-4 feet above the water line and blocked by bushes and low hanging trees. There are a couple widow makers above so use caution during storms.

We moved to site 18 which was level with the water and pretty wide open. This area of the campground was much better. The only negative was the amount of ants, which we kept out of the camper with comet.

There was a 3 foot gator around most of the weekend. Some gar and blue cats to catch along with a lot of small crappie.

The facilities were clean. I think there was only one dumpster that is too far to walk with trash. Ice is for sale when social distancing rules go away.

Quiet, Gorgeous

So nice. Many sites right on the water. Quiet and well equipped. Weather was perfect for a fire right next to the river. Fire ring, charcoal grill, flat paved sites...perfect for this 24' RV.

Quiet, out of the way, and a charming place

Wifi non-existent.

sketchy phone service...we have verizon and had very limited coverage.

great staff...very helpful.

showers...pressure was great!  restrooms were old(er), but clean!

Site was very level....ours had good shade...fair amount of space and many concrete pads (but not all).

Some have raised issues about the ants...we did see ants, but ONLY on the tent walk in area...and there were places there that looked like the ants would have been a real issue.

Waterfront camping

Gorgeous sites, many right on the water. We saw huge paddlefish jumping out of the water, many birds and deer on the nature trail. Bring fishing poles. Staff super friendly. Would get five stars but the ants really are bad. It's a southern campground thing apparently. Be prepared and you'll be fine. Walk-in sites really nice and trail is flat and will accommodate wagon for hauling gear easily.

Bring ant killer if camping in tents!

The tent sites are walk in only...guess I missed that bit of info when I reserved. The guy at the gate was nice enough to change us from the furthest site to the closest...with 2 kids in tow I definitely didn't want to carry all the our supplies in! Sadly the sites were infested with ants!! They were everywhere..inside everything and we had to toss food that was in containers...just gave us the jitters! Spray killed many of them but we used an entire can and still had ants!

The bath house and washer/dryer were clean.

Ppl were friendly. The lake wss gorgeous
