Up the Hill
This is a shelter up the hill from Cheaha Falls Campground on the Skyway Loop. Make sure to check out my review of Cheaha Falls Campground where I discuss the entire loop and the best times of year to visit. This shelter is very simple and like most of the ones you see on the AT. There is only protection on 3 sides and a slanted roof with a platform to sleep on. The platform itself is probably big enough for around 2 tents and then there is additional space around the shelter where you could set up camp. It also has a firepit out front and an incredible view of the surroundings. One of the only downsides to staying here rather than at Cheaha Falls is that you will have to go up and down a steep hill anytime you want to get water or spend time at the falls. It is not a terrible trek but is not fun If you are trying to bring up water and all your gear. The other thing is that during busy seasons such as spring, early summer, and fall it can get crowded pretty quick so don’t expect much privacy if you stay here. Overall, it may be worth giving up some privacy for the the protection from the rain and the sunrise view you get over the mountains.
