Fishing enthusiasts and hikers will find Upper Campground positioned above Kettle Creek State Park's reservoir, with direct access to both water activities and trail networks. The campground sits on elevated terrain that provides views down to the lake, though campers should note that sites with electric hookups cluster more tightly together than the dispersed tent-only areas deeper in the wooded sections.
Site selection makes a significant difference in the camping experience here. The electric sites near the reservoir edge offer convenient RV access but pack campers closer together, while the non-electric sites spread farther apart among the trees. Site 71 stands out as the most secluded option, tucked away from the main camping areas. Mary H. found it "super quiet back there and totally private." Site 45 presents challenges with its steep slope that makes setup difficult.
The campground provides basic amenities including restrooms and a scullery area, though campers wanting hot showers need to travel to the lower campground facility for an additional $4 fee. Kettle Creek flows directly through the area, allowing campers to fish from their sites and launch kayaks with relative ease. A 7.5-mile loop trail connects the Nature Trail with the Butler Trail, leading to Kettle Creek Vista before returning via the Donut Hole Trail.
For those seeking full hookups and closer amenities, Lower Campground — Kettle Creek State Park offers a different camping environment just downstream.
