Best RV Parks & Resorts near Rock Springs, WY

Rock Springs offers several established RV parks with varied amenities and hookup options. The Sweetwater Event Complex Fairgrounds provides full hookup RV sites with 15/30/50 amp electrical service on gravel surfaces, accommodating larger rigs with back-in spots. Rock Springs/Green River KOA Journey features 181 sites open year-round with water, electric, and sewer connections for motorhomes and travel trailers. "Lots of parking slots. All gravel slot the one we got was level and most look level," noted one KOA visitor about the site conditions. Little America RV Park has 42 sites with electric, water, and sewer hookups in a convenient location off I-80 at Exit 68. Buckboard Marina RV accommodates motorhomes with electric and sewer connections in a lakeside setting.

Most RV parks in the area require advance reservations during peak summer months, particularly for weekend stays. Site prices vary significantly, with KOA charging premium rates compared to the fairgrounds' more economical $17 full hookup option. Cell service quality fluctuates throughout the region, with some travelers reporting spotty AT&T coverage at certain locations. Dump stations are available at the KOA and Sweetwater facilities but limited elsewhere. The majority of parks welcome pets with standard restrictions. Winter travelers should note that while the KOA remains operational year-round, several parks including Buckboard Crossing close seasonally from October through mid-May. Highway access is straightforward for most parks, though some reviewers mention wind as a notable factor when parking and setting up larger rigs.

    Green River RB Park

    Okay for a Short Stay

Our Ford navigation was having a bad day and wanted us to take Exit 91 from I-80 west bound to get to the campground (CG). That exit would have you going through the middle of town, but the alternate navigation we always run(either Waze and/or Google Maps) brought us to the correct exit for the CG. We double-checked the website and verified they are located right off of I-80 at Exit 85 (east bound) or 89(west bound). When we got to the CG, another rig was checking in, so we had to sit on the somewhat busy road until we could make the turn on the street for the CG office. The lady checking us in was super friendly and we proceeded to the upper E section to pull through site 11 with FHUs. The pad was plenty long enough for our 40’ fifth wheel and our F450. The utilities worked fine but we needed a reducer as the water pressure was around 100 psi. We read reviews concerning low water pressure and they were working on the waterline in the CG so be aware. There are trees in or near most of the sites. We put our Starlink in the front part of the pad for a northern sky shot. There are 34 sites in the E section; 19 pull-throughs plus 10 small back-ins and 4 tent sites on the back fence where I-80 runs(you will hear road noise anywhere in this CG. There’s a bathhouse and a small fenced dog area. While we were here for 3 days, the poop bag dispenser was empty and the regular-sized garbage can in the dog area was 1/2 full of poop bags. The laundry facility is in the bottom section where the larger back-in sites/permanent party are located. We checked out the public river access at the end of the road down from where the office is located. You could launch a kayak, but there isn’t much parking. After trying to log into the CG WiFi several times, we connected and the WiFi was not good. We got 3 bars on Verizon. One of the transient workers started a loud diesel truck and let it run a long time before departing each morning. Unfortunately, this is a typical occurrence in these types of CGs. We were impressed with the local area brochures they gave us on local dining and the wild horses. They have 24-hour laundry and showers in the CG. In our humble opinion, the best thing about this CG was the coffee and craft beer on draft at the office. They have 4 craft beers on draft and you can get a flight for$5. The coffee and draft beers at the officer are worth checking out. Try a burger on a cornmeal bun at Broadway Burger Station in Rock Springs. This CG was okay for an overnighter or a couple of days at most.

Little America RV Park - A Traveler's Oasis

    Nice for overnight!

Arrived 6:15pm. Called in around 5pm on a Friday and they had a site available for the night. Unclear where RVs should park to check in at the hotel lobby, but there’s a large parking area so we parked sideways through several spots. They escorted us to our site: pull through, full hookups. Sites are long with plenty of room for the slide. Can hear the noise from the idling big rigs right next to the campground. Bathrooms are in the hotel lobby, which closes at 10:30pm, or the Travel Center right next door. There’s also a Sinclair gas station on the property. Would definitely stay here again.

Spring Creek Road Dispersed - Flaming Gorge

Quiet and Dark by the Lake

Easy dirt road, pulled 34 foot toy hauler with no problem. Enough space to turn around at the end of the road. Very quiet at night, perfect for sleeping. Rock fire pits available. Very private. Slow internet with T-Mobile.

    Rock Springs/Green River KOA Journey

    Good for an overnighter

Clean, free, hot showers, clean bathrooms. Nice little dog park. Friendly staff. Easy access, free WiFi.

The only downsize is that the pull through campsite, you come in from the right and your neighbor comes in from the left so your front doors are facing each other and are about 12 feet apart, ok for one night, I suppose.

    Buckboard Cove Dispersed Campsite

Peaceful waterfront boondocking with great views and space to spread out

We stayed just outside Buckboard Crossing Campground near 41.23339 N, 109.59618 W and had an amazing experience. For most of the week, we were completely alone it was quiet, peaceful, and right along the water. Finding a level spot close to the lake can be a little tricky, but nothing too challenging. We tow a 19 ft travel trailer and had no issues getting in or out.The dirt roads in can be rough in places definitely a lot of ruts and potholes likely caused by people driving when it's muddy. That said, we saw smaller vehicles make it just fine. While we wouldn't recommend this for oversized rigs unless you're experienced, the main access road to the sites is wide enough, and a large travel trailer did show up a couple days before we left. There were some folks with off-leash dogs, and traffic picked up a bit on Friday and into the weekend with boaters and folks riding around on UTVs, but it never felt crowded. There is some scattered trash around the area left by others, but nothing overwhelming.Just down the road is the established Buckboard Crossing Campground with a boat launch, vault toilet, and what looks like a dump station and spigot, though the water was shut off during our stay. We ended up dumping and refilling at the Maverik in town, which had free services.

    Rock Springs/Green River KOA Journey

    Desert Gem

It might be right off the freeway in the middle of Wyoming sparseness but it was a pleasure to stay here for the night. Clean facilities and bathroom, laundry room, exercise room. We stayed at a deluxe spot with a concrete pad and privacy fence. Staff was kind and very helpful. Good stop when you are tired and need to stay somewhere nice.

    Green River RB Park

Exactly as described. Nice easy stop.

Overall Impression: Campground was exactly as described. It’s a bit outside the main towns, but peaceful and scenic—perfect for relaxing. Manager was incredibly accommodating and kind.

Location & Recreation: Right along the river, which makes it ideal if you bring tubes or kayaks. We walked about ½ mile down the main path and floated a mile before the dam at the county park—super fun and easy access.

Site Quality: Sites were level, mostly open (not much tree cover), and full hookups were in great condition—clean and easy to reach. No grass at the sites, which is typical for the area, but everything was tidy and well-kept.

Amenities: Each site had a large, sturdy picnic table. We didn’t use the bathhouse, but water pressure in our camper was a little low. The office/common area has a fun little bar with local beers, plus espresso drinks and Italian sodas—nice touch! We didn’t use not find the laundry but it’s not within the main camping area you have to drive if you don’t have a second vehicle it’s not likely accessible.

Connectivity: T-Mobile home internet didn’t work well for us at the site, but the campground office had fast, stable WiFi and plenty of comfortable seating for working or hanging out.

Would We Stay Again? Yes—especially if you're looking for river access, reliable amenities, and a laid-back vibe just outside the busier areas.

    Buckboard Crossing

    Dodge the sprinklers!

This was a really nice campground. They had two loops, loop A was mostly for RVs with hookups and loop B had standard sites (we stayed in this loop). The campground was very clean, really nice bathrooms and showers minus the fact that the showers get locked at 9pm so you have to plan ahead and hope everyone else isn’t using the showers when you go. The main inconvenience (and reason i only gave 4 stars) the sprinklers! I assume they are trying to grow grass but loop B had an abundance of sprinklers going non stop. We were able to find a site out of the path of the sprinklers but most were getting soaked! You also had to dodge them when going to the bathhouse, even walking on the road you had to go out of your way to avoid them. I’m sure this isn’t a long term thing but I did see where one person covered their picnic area with plastic. It’s an inconvenience but the campground itself is really nice! We arrived later and there was a self pay station at the host site on loop A. We stayed one night in a standard site for $20. The hookup sites were a little bit more but I think it was still under $30. Clean water and dump station nearby (unsure if there was a fee for the dump station)

Guide to Rock Springs

Dispersed camping opportunities near Rock Springs, Wyoming provide alternatives to established RV parks. The area sits at approximately 6,400 feet elevation in the high desert, with significant seasonal temperature variations and persistent winds common throughout the year. Public lands surrounding Rock Springs offer multiple dispersed camping options on Bureau of Land Management (BLM) property, particularly along the White Mountain area.

What to do

Wildlife viewing: White Mountain Road offers excellent opportunities to see wild horses. "We saw over 20 wild horses. The wind and heat can be pretty intense at times. Beautiful sunsets," notes a camper at Green River Flaming Gorge Dispersed Site.

Fishing and water recreation: Flaming Gorge Reservoir provides fishing access with camping nearby. "Take the boat out, the side by sides and anything else you can think of," recommends a visitor at Buckboard Crossing, which offers sites near the water from May through October.

Off-road trail exploration: The area features extensive OHV trail networks. "OHV trail. Many side pullouts. Quiet, dusty, beautiful views. On a butte so windy," describes a camper who accessed trails directly from their campsite at Green River Flaming Gorge.

What campers like

Mountain views: Dispersed sites offer panoramic vistas of the surrounding landscape. "Sites 32-33 in loop B have incredible view of the high dessert. Definitely high country with winds blowing all day but by sundown the wind had died down enough for a fire and the sunset was freaking amazing," shares a Buckboard Crossing visitor.

Affordability: Budget-conscious campers appreciate the economical options. "We decided to take advantage of the $17 full RV hookup spot just to conserve power and refill our water tank," notes a visitor at Sweetwater Event Complex Fairgrounds, which offers some of the most affordable full-hookup sites in the area.

Privacy at tent sites: "Standard KOA facilities. Very nice tent spots. Headed to the campground after a long day of driving and was pleasantly surprised to find fenced in tent spaces with plots of grass for the tents and an aspen in each lot," reports a tent camper at Rock Springs/Green River KOA Journey.

What you should know

Wind conditions: Nearly every reviewer mentions wind as a factor when camping near Rock Springs. "The area is open and subject to a lot of wind. Not a lot of traffic and other campers are a ways off. Does get very windy," warns a camper at Green River Flaming Gorge.

Site selection: Campground layouts vary significantly. "The spaces are very close together and they pull neighbors in alternating directions so that you're facing a neighbor's front door when you come out of yours, minimizing privacy if you want to eat or cook outdoors," explains a KOA visitor about the RV section layout.

Seasonal closures: "Closed Down Mid October but I boondocked anyway as the lone camper in a great spot with awesome views. A maize of high desert gravel roads provided excellent hiking opportunities and access to a beach on the lake," notes a visitor at Buckboard Marina RV, highlighting the need to check seasonal schedules.
