Great private campground near Stowe

Public campgrounds are pretty limited in this part of VT, so we ended up at Gold Brook CG. This is definitely best for RVs/travel trailers where you can escape inside your unit because this place gets busy on the weekend. We visited in early June before the high season, so the crowds were minimal during the week but busy on the weekend. We personally would prefer more seclusion/privacy between the sites since we tent camp. All that said, the plots are level, grassy, and seemingly well maintained. The bathroom facilities were clean and nice; washer and dryer room available. Too cool for the pool but looked nice. We stayed in site 12, though next time i believe we’d opt for something further down to be closer to the creek. While we were next to the creek at site 12, it was blocked by brush and trees.

Check in was easy, and the staff were present enough in case you had questions or needed to buy firewood. Road noise was moderate; I wouldn’t want to stay in sites 1-11 due to the proximity to the road.

The campground served as a good ‘basecamp’ for accessing Stowe and other surrounding attractions.

Can’t speak to the negative review re cancellations, but my experience with the staff was all positive and received relatively prompt responses to questions.

Surprisingly Great Campground

I was a little worried after reading some negative reviews and realizing this is the only RV campground in the area, but was pleasantly surprised!

Our site was level and extremely spacious, FHUs, and featuring a fire pit. There is a nice playground in the center and a creek that follows the tent sites. Our dog loved swimming in the creek and meeting his first bullfrog.

The campground also has a small pool, one washer and one dryer, and decent showers/restrooms. Wifi was great over the week (was able to work without a problem), but collapsed when more people showed up on Friday. It’s centrally located to many wonderful sites around Stowe and Waterbury.

Check-in was a breeze. We picked up our packet from the office mail box and headed to our site. Very laid back, hands off, which is nice after a long drive and during a pop up storm.

We would definitely stay here again. Loved the community surrounding the campground and the place itself. Definitely check it out.

BEWARE OF CANCELLATION POLICY!

This was a first for me. The reviews werent the greatest on this park to begin with, but we were traveling with a couple other friends and wanted to visit Stowe on our way through New England. Never planning on cancelling, I admittedly never read the cancellation policy, but now that I am aware, I want to make sure no one experiences what we did!! Made the reservation on 2/15, and today May 23 had to cancel because of the uncertainty with diesel. Reservation was for August 7-10 (2 1/2 months from now). Deposit was payment in full... $171.00. Refund was $0.00!! Had I reserved last month, I would get all but $10.00 back, but because I reserved over 90 days ago, they keep the full amount! Makes no sense!! Planners BE CAREFUL!! I get losing a deposit or a part of a deposit when cancelling a couple weeks in advance, but to collect the whole amount and then not refund a dime because its been over 90 days since I called, despite two months notice...thats robbery!! Im fine with a cancellation fee, but payment in full with 75 day notice is pretty harsh (our friends were staying longer and lost 290.00!). Our plan is to go next year and we will definitely not plan to stay at Gold Brook, nor will we recommend to anyone in fear they too will lose so much money.

Horrible customer service and business practices!

I would give 0 stars if that were an option! Very bad business practices happening here. We booked a site at this campground over 6 months in advance. I should have known better when they required the entire amount up front instead of the normal deposit. I had to cancel my reservation 2 1/2 months prior to going, which is a very advance notice! I called the office and was told they would cancel my reservation and refund my $. Then the next day I received an email from the office stating that they do not refund any $ if the reservation was made over 90 days previously!!! What type of “rule” is this? They are refusing any sort of refund and it seems like they are “double dipping” by rebooking the sites after they have collected the money. This is no way to do business and we do not recommend dealing with a corrupt park like this. It cost us almost $300!

Nice small local campground

Nice campground, family run, on the little Gold Brook. The sites along the brook are treated to the babbling brook sites and sounds. While most sites are relatively wide open, they are well spaced out with tons of room. They just upgraded their wifi throughout. The tent only section is really nice too. Facilities are well taken care of, small pool, playground for kids, and the owners are great.

Stoked in Stowe

Super conveniently located to all of the hiking and biking Stowe has to offer. The hosts are super friendly and the primitive camp sites are spacious and located along a quaint brook and sprawling meadow. Dogs allowed on leashes. Bookmarking this site for next time I’m in the area.
